Salary/Position Classification

• $12.0013.00 Hourly NonExempt (Eligible for overtime)

Purpose of Position

This is a parttime nonbenefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. Position may continue into the academic year if agreed upon.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of planned activities that promote growth in all developmental domains
  • a. Set a positive example of how learning is fun
  • b. Assist children with activities to further their growth and development
  • c. Assist with setup and cleanup of activities
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all children families and coworkers
• Promote a positive and friendly atmosphere to families/individuals
  • a. Extends warm welcome to others by introducing self using eye contact using first names and not showing favoritism to individual children coworkers or parents
• Assist Experienced Teachers in offering support to studentsintraining
  • a. Be a positive role model of professionalism to all employees at the Learning Center
  • b. Answer questions if able or find an experienced teacher to answer the questions
• Become knowledgeable of and carry out the University Childrens Learning Center policies and goals as outlined in the Student Caregiver Guide
  • a. Become familiar with the Parent Guide
• Work closely with the teachers to create a close caring respectful relationship with each childs family
• Assist in preparation of a rich stimulating learning environment for children. This may require that one be able to move and carry furniture lift 30 lb. bags of sand or rice carry outdoor equipment indoors or outdoors etc.
• Assist in providing a healthy and safe environment. This requires that one be agile and strong.
• Assist in maintaining the daily routine that meets childrens need for rest nutrition quiet and active play both in and outdoors throughout the day. (Requires that one be able to play comfortably on the floor sit on the floor for long periods of time sit in childsized chairs at low table hold children in ones lap and play outdoors for long periods of time in both hot and cold weather.
• Complete and maintain membership in professional organizations (local state and national)
• Attend workshops seminars conferences and enroll in college courses that promote ones professional growth
• Practice use of ideas and knowledge acquired sharing this information with other staff
• Maintain familiarity and meet minimum requirements as indicated by the ND Child Care Center Early Childhood Services Chapter 750310 Licensing Rules and Regulations. Adhere to these policies to the best of your ability.
• Attend the appropriate amount of certified training annually
• Keep current on Early Childhood Education and Child Care issues

Minimum Requirements

• Upon being hired UCLC will provide the following:
  • Enrollment in North Dakota Growing Futures training program for childcare professional development
  • Basic child care course from North Dakota Growing Futures called Getting Started. This must be completed within 90 days of employment
  • CPR/First Aid/AED training. This must be completed within 60 days of employment.
  • ND Mandated Reporter Training
• Must have accepted a Federal Work Study Award from the Office of Student Finance
• Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for the employed academic semester
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check includes fingerprinting

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with children 35 years old
• Focus on early childhood education child development elementary education nursing occupational therapy or related fields
