Job Description
Educational Talent Search ETS is a federally funded TRIO program that serves first generation lowincome and disabled students. All services provided to ETS participants are incorporated into approved program objectives that meet secondary school completion and postsecondary school entry goals. The Educational Advisor for the ETS program is responsible for collecting and disseminating educational information conducting workshops and promoting financial aid opportunities in the target community. The Educational Advisor also provides active recruitment efforts of lowincome and firstgeneration individuals who desire to complete their secondary education and continue at the postsecondary level. Responsibilities: Identifying and recruiting lowincome first generation students or students who have academic need for services in grades 612 as well as high school graduates and postsecondary dropouts. Having an assigned caseload of the above participants numbering from 150250 annually. Recruiting of all participants no later than March 31st of each grant year. Meeting with Assistant Director as needed to track progress. Giving verbal and /or visual presentations on ETS / TRIO . Consistently meeting with target school administration ref. ETS Advising all target school counseling staff on school visits. Visiting target area middle schools once a month and high schools twice a month Visiting target schools Monday through Thursday utilizing Friday as a day to review input and file services and documents obtained during the week; Conducting home visits as needed in ref. to gathering needed materials or to advise participants and families on various information. Arranging and conducting no more than three college tours per academic year. Rendering academic and personal counseling to all participants. Arranging tutorial assistance for participants. Conducting a variety of workshops for participants and parents including but not limited to career vocational personal development study skills decision making SAT / ACT financial aid test taking course selection and admissions seminars. Developing two workshops per year (one per semester). Adopting two outside agencies (one no later than November; the second no later than February) within assigned target area per grant year. Making individual referrals to educational institutions and other similar educational programs. Receiving participants grades per reporting period. Performing all graduate surveys by May 15th of each grant year with followup by phone by June 30th. Operating program software in order to document services and format reports. Travel to various locations for professional development in order to perform adequate job duties. Other duties as assigned by the Director. Saint Augustines University SAU drawing on its rich legacy as an access institution is a studentfocused comprehensive educational institution that produces outstanding graduates prepared for personal and professional success. SAU was established in 1867 in Raleigh NC by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. A fouryear liberal arts university with an average enrollment of approximately 1000 SAU sits on 105 lush acres just north of Downtown Raleigh NC. The institution offers more than 20 undergraduate degrees and a Master of Public Administration MPA Program and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges SACSCOC . Physical Demands
Occasional need to lift at least 20 pounds; Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time; Frequent need for oral written and auditory communication; Valid North Carolina drivers license at all times; Valid North Carolina Vehicle Registration on personal vehicle at all times; Must be willing to travel geographically within the designated target area on a regular basis; Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions; Occasional need for travel; and Ability to work in fast paced and/or sometimes stressful situations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree; Masters degree preferred in Education Counseling or related field and comparable proven experience working with low income first generation traditionally underrepresented and/or disabled students; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Prior experience with ETS and/or other TRIO programs; and Experience in a higher education setting providing advising services or counseling to students who are educationally economically and otherwise disadvantaged.
