Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:The School Support Officer (SSO) is an executive leadership position under the direction of the Network Superintendent. The primary responsibility of the School Support Officer (SSO) is support and development of principals as instructional leaders. School Support Officers (SSOs) in collaboration with the Network Superintendent inform the selection hiring and appraising of principals. They are expected to develop principals capacity to improve school performance. School Support Officers (SSOs) are also responsible for working in partnership with district departments to monitor and support principals in appropriate implementation and adherence to federal state and district policies and procedures.

REPORTS TO: Network Superintendent

SALARY SCHEDULE: 229 Principal Scale Supplement

WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Education Level: Masters degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred: Education Specialist or earned doctorate

2.Experience Skill and Certification:

  • Valid Georgia Professional Teaching certification in Education.
  • Eligible for Georgia Leadership certification (Tier II).
  • Must possess extensive experience in the field of public education to include successful classroom teaching experience and principal experience.
  • Must possess budget planning experience.
  • Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the principles practices and current issues in the provision of public education programs and services.
  • Must possess a demonstrated knowledge of state/federal regulations and accreditation requirements governing public education program.
  • Must possess excellent leadership supervisory interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers paraprofessionals school administrative staff parents guardians the community and central office administrative staff.
  • Must possess excellent leadership management and communication skills.
  • Must possess experience supervising and providing performance feedback professional staff managing budgets and developing and interpreting student population projections and teacher allocation.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills in required.
  • Must possess the ability to speak effectively before large groups and highlevel executives.
  • Proficient in the use of technology
  • Proven ability to communicate well with parents and staff.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities deadlines administrative work and special projects.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students parents staff and school administration.
  • Must possess the following skillbased competencies to satisfactorily perform the function of the position: analyzing; effective listening; facilitating meetings; and guiding others.

Preferred:Experience in a large urban system characterized by multi ethnic and cultural diversity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Establish a relationship with principals based on common goals trust and mutual accountability.
  • Collaborate with principals to identify leadership strengths and weaknesses; and determine a coaching plan to improve practice.
  • Coach and support principals work to improve school performance and create equitable opportunities for diverse learners.
  • Observe principals and provide feedback related to principals leadership effectiveness.
  • Provide principals feedback that is clearly defined and aligned to district strategic priorities and campus needs to bolster student achievement and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with the Network Superintendent to achieve goals aligned to the district vision and strategic priorities.
  • Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to support the principal in developing campuses short term and longterm school improvement goals.
  • Coordinate with district departments and advocate for the deployment of resources to support principals work as appropriate.
  • Guide principals in the strategic allocation of fiscal and human resources to support campus in achieving school improvement goals.
  • Assist principals with resolving issues and removing obstacles that impede improving school performance.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage in development and continuous improvement to help principals grow as instructional leaders.
  • Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 250 days. Salary will be determined based on the level of certification and allowable experience on the 229 Principal Scale Supplement. New 032024
