QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate Degree in Library/Media Science or equivalent course work in library/media science or equivalent experiences.
- Must meet certification requirements of the Ohio Department of Education.
- Paraprofessional Certificate or 48 semester hours with an accredited college or university.
- Successfully pass police background check.
- Must have knowledge of general office and clerical practices.
- Must be able to demonstrate keyboarding skills.
- Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
- Possess good public relation skills.
- Possess the ability to relate effectively and positively with staff and students.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Possess experience in working with word processing database and spreadsheet software applications.
- Experience with automated circulation systems desirable.
- Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
- Residence in the taxing district of Alliance City Schools is preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct the library/media program in the assigned school building under the supervision of the building principal and the Director of Communications and Technology.
- Conduct a library/media center orientation for all students the first week of school.
- Participate in orientation for new staff members.
- Be responsible for inventorying all media housed in the buildings library/media center.
- Be responsible for the circulation of all media housed in the buildings library/media center.
- Maintain records for the following as outlined by the Director of Communications and Technology:
- Collection inventories
- Overdue materials and related fines and fees
- Library/media center supplies
- Catalogue and process materials that are not processed by the central library office (cover pocket and card etc.
- Work with the buildings teaching staff the building principal and parent organizations to select appropriate materials for the library/media center.
- Prepare orders for new print and nonprint media and materials.
- Perform minor book and magazine repairs.
- Maintain the card catalogue and shelf list (traditional or electric as conditions warrant).
- Develop and coordinate a library/media center volunteer program as needed.
- Provide students with instruction in library/media center skills appropriate for the students developmental levels.
- Follow written lesson plans provided by the Alliance City Schools for instructional units on library skills.
- Assist and guide students in the use of print nonprint traditional and electronic reference and research resources.
- Develop and maintain attractive displays that reinforce library skills call attention to new or recently received materials and support season or thematic units of instruction.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional relationship with all staff members.
- Monitor student attendance.
- Supervise and maintain student discipline in the library/media center.
- Work in conjunction with the assigned certificated library/media specialist to obsolete and worn materials from the collection.
- Pull resource units of materials requested by classroom teachers in a timely fashion.
- Read age appropriate literature to younger students.
- Work cooperatively with building principals to develop a weekly schedule for classroom visits to the library/media center.
- Maintain vertical file AV and multimedia kit materials.
LRC Technician PT continued:
- Provide classroom teachers with a written list of students with overdue materials and fines owed.
- Collect overdue fines and fees.
- Use computer spreadsheets to maintain financial records (fines fees and expenditures).
- Deposit money with school secretary.
- Assist in the annual inventory of library materials.
- Prepare and endofyear list of missing materials and materials that need to be discarded.
- Shelve incoming books and materials.
- Facilitate the distribution of AV software materials to classrooms as needed.
- Keep current with developments in childrens literature.
- Keep abreast of reading materials that correlate with the Alliance City Schools board adopted curricula.
- Serve as the building liaison with Rodman Public Library.
- Participate in monthly library/media department meetings.
- Be aware of current copyright laws and familiar with board policies and administrative guidelines regarding copyright laws and their implications for copying print materials and computer software.
- Be able to help students and staff with basic computer operating system functions (i.e. creating new folders storing documents in folders saving documents copy cut past deleting documents backing up files etc.
- Be able to help students and staff with basic software application function (word processing database spreadsheet and drawing).
- Be able to assist students and staff in the use of CDROM based reference materials (i.e. multimedia encyclopedias dictionaries atlases etc.
- Be responsible for providing the building principal with the necessary information needed to complete all local state and federal reports concerning the library and its use.
- Facilitate the interlibrary loan of materials with other libraries throughout the district.
- Help students develop habits of independent reference work.
- Prepare current magazines for shelving and maintain backnumber stacks.
- Provide students and staff with training and support in using an online automated circulation system when applicable.
- Enter circulation data into computerautomated cataloguing system when applicable.
- Maintain computerautomated patron records when applicable.
- Barcode books and materials for computerautomated circulation systems when applicable.
- Troubleshoot problems with computers and automated circulation system as applicable.
- Facilitate the circulation of AV materials from the district library/media department office.
- Help with the implementation of new technologies.
- Serve on buildinglevel and districtwide planning committees
- Organize wholelanguage material sets as needed.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to develop thematic units and select appropriate supportive literature.
- Participate in buildingwide literature promotional programs such as RIF RighttoRead and Book Fairs.
- Attend faculty meetings.
- Participate in instructional teaming meetings on an asneeded basis.
- Attend inservices training programs and/or meetings as required by Board policy the Superintendent of Schools or the Ohio Department of Education.
- Perform additional duties which may be assigned by the building principal the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
