Job Description

40% -Assists professional staff with day-to-day program function including managing various administrative tasks including but not limited to attendance tracking student observations training creation and implementation CRLA Certification tracking and more
30% - Provide support for activities related to existing new and emerging services including researching and developing program models and developing and implementing pilots
25% - Takes the lead on workshops associated with academic success including developing and updating online academic support materials and coordinating and facilitating workshops for classrooms student organizations and campus partners

5% - Participates in administrative team meetings and other duties as assigned

  1. KU graduate student in good academic standing
  2. Strong interest in helping college students succeed
  3. Demonstrated experience in training and public speaking as evidenced by coursework and/or work experience
  4. Attention to detail as demonstrated in interview
  5. Ability to work 16-20 hours per week


  1. Previous experience as a peer tutor or peer educator as an undergraduate student
  2. Able to take initiative and work independently while also collaborating with professional staff
  3. Excellent verbal communication skills as demonstrated by the interview
  4. Strong computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word Teams and Excel
  5. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with individuals of diverse backgrounds


Position Overview
The Center for Learning and Writing Support is a unit in the University Academic Support Centers (UASC) that provides programming to all KU students in the form of Supplemental Instruction (SI) Tutoring Services Peer Academic Coaching Writing Consulting and Workshops. The Graduate Assistant assists the professional staff in the Center for Learning and Writing Support with day-to-day programming in KUs Center for Learning and Writing Support specializing in supporting new and emerging services and programs and in supporting College Reading Learning Association (CRLA) training and certification processes.

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
