Purpose Statement
The job of Paraeducator Functional Adaptive (FA) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision care and instruction of special needs students in the general education classroom or in a selfcontained classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during nonclassroom time; providing information to appropriate school personnel; and attending IEP meetings.
This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: Supporting students with high needs; behaviors/sensory regulation social emotional communication fine and gross motor skills (i.e. tube feeding catheterization) diapering and/or toileting.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skillbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand multistep written and oral instructions. Specific knowledgebased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: instructional procedures and practices; ageappropriate student activities; safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; and stages of child development/ behavior; deescalation strategies.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities meetings and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use jobrelated equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide
diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific jobrelated equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilitybased competencies required to
satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading guiding and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the jobs functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organizations services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20 sitting 40 walking 40 standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Education (Preferred): Paraeducator Certificate Program
Education (Minimum): Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent (for more detailed information on what is considered equivalent.
