Job Summary:
Are you a skilled project engineer with experience overseeing complex highstakes projects Were seeking an experienced Project Engineer to be a part of our Customer Focused Engineering team that supports the Aerospace Defense and Space industries. In this role youll drive the successful delivery of projects for Petersen that play a huge role in the safety of our Country and future of mankind. You will ensure each project meets both budgetary and timeline goals while exceeding quality standards. Essential Functions:
The Project Engineer oversees mid to largescale complex machining/fab/assembly projects guides a project team through the entire project cycle from estimating the project with the customer design for fabrication shop floor and final delivery. This role involves leading and coordinating the team to ensure successful project and customer satisfaction.
Duties:
- Collaborate with Sales and lead the estimate building process for customer projects using Petersens ERP software
- Plan and buildout projects from start to finish that will be manufactured in our Ogden facility
- Manage all phases of multiple midsized to large projects at any given time with technicalassistance from the shopfloor and design engineering including preorderingsales support (budget/quotationphase) and contract review of orders. Lead projects independently with minimal guidance.
- Understanding the requirements of customized customer specifications and apply visualProject Management and dailymanagement. Evaluate planning and technical risk make decisions and ensure countermeasures are in place to enable the executionof the project milestones on time.
- Coordinate with team members in their area of expertise (mechanical chemical electricalautomation etc. to ensure delivery of the project on time on budget and to the qualitystandards expected by ourcustomers. Plan and manage projects communications and reporting with the customers project team management and allinvolvedstakeholders
- Followup check challenge and support project suppliersprogress.
- Be the point of contact for customers ensure ontime delivery at committed quality
- Support negotiations with customers regarding the contracted work with Petersen
- Safety Commitment to safety while on shop floor and throughout entirety of all projects managed
- Lean Engage in and lead continuous improvement exercises for the engineering team to ensure we are getting work to the shop floor in the right amount of time
- Quality Facilitate a crossfunctional team to investigate root cause and implement corrective actions for any nonconformances
- Delivery Releasing work to the shop floor in a timely manner
- Team Collaborate with the shop floor (welders/assemblers/machinists) to ensure the following:
- Estimate is correct
- Plan is within budget timeframe and to the customer specification/quality requirements
- Project is executed at the committed timeline to the custo
Availability:
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employers sole discretion. Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
Knowledge Skills:
- Engineering background
- Strong verbal/presentation communication ability
- Able to communicate effectively across all functions and build strong team collaboration.
- Analytical and able to use sound data to drive continuous improvement.

Experience:
- Project Management experience (multiple projects >$10M in contract value)
- Customer relationship management
- Continuous Improvement/Lean mindset
- Past involvement in a strong safety culture
Experience and Education:
Minimum of 10 years related work experience.
Or B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Technology or related engineering field preferred.
Travel:Must be available and willing to travel as Petersen determines necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
Working Conditions:Normally works in an office. Occasionally the employee is subject to:
- Shop floor environment.
- High noise levels from operating machines.
- Physical hazards from moving equipment and production components.
- Breathing fumes dust and mist.
- Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
- Welding flash.
