Job Description for 7th Grade Geography Teacher at the Poteau 7th and 8th Grade Center
As a 7th Geography teacher at the Poteau 7th and 8th Grade Center you will be responsible for teaching fundamental geographical concepts fostering critical thinking and preparing students for future learning through engaging lessons assessments and classroom management while adhering to Oklahoma State Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum:
- Plan prepare and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Oklahoma Social Studies Standards for 7th grade Geography.
- Utilize various teaching methods including lectures discussions group activities projects and technology to cater to diverse learning styles.
- Develop and administer assessments (tests quizzes projects) to evaluate student understanding and progress.
- Maintain accurate and uptodate records of student attendance grades and progress.
- Stay current with developments in geography education and best practices.
- Classroom Management:
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel safe and respected.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a productive learning environment.
- Address student behavior issues promptly and fairly.
- Student Support:
- Provide individualized support and instruction to students who are struggling.
- Collaborate with parents guardians and other educators to support student learning.
- Advise students on academic and career paths.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practices and curriculum development.
- Serve on school committees as needed.
- Oklahoma State Standards:
- Familiarize yourself with and implement the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Social Studies specifically the Geography strand.
- Understand the importance of geography in developing informed and responsible citizens.
- Help students understand the choices and decisions of the past and their impact on the present.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Geography Social Studies Education or a related field.
- Oklahoma teaching license or eligibility for licensure.
- Experience teaching middle school geography or social studies preferred.
- Strong communication interpersonal and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.
