Our District:

The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2000 students enrolled K12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools a middle school a high school and an alternative high school; and the SnoIsle Skills Center a cooperative vocational technical school.

Our Community:

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our backyard is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan Startup and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

The school psychologist evaluates the needs of average gifted disabled and emotionally and behaviorally challenged children in an educational setting; to perform psychoeducational assessments to determine appropriate programs and instructional processes to enable students to achieve maximum achievement and adjustment; to assist students in understanding and seeking solutions to social emotional or academic problems and issues; to serve as a resource pertaining to student behavior management and learning strategies welfare and other issues related to the special education program; and to do other related functions as directed.

Essential Functions:

These statements are intended to describe the major purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities duties and skills required. The Sultan School Districts Strategic Plan supports the Nine Characteristics of High Performing Schools. The Sultan School District uses professional learning communities to develop essential learnings learning targets proficiency rating scales common formative assessments summative assessments etc.

  • Provide feedback to staff and parents regarding the testing timelines results and interpretation of observations and data collection.
  • Conduct analyze and effectively utilize a variety of assessment tools and techniques applicable to the student with learning behavioral neurological emotional and other disabilities.
  • Utilize appropriate psychological and psychometric techniques to effectively assess students and aid them and their parents in analyzing and developing alternative solutions to behavioral educational social and emotional problems and concerns.
  • Incorporate information from testing observations parents agencies and other participants from the evaluation team in developing programs services and plans of action for individual students.
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing with students parents staff and community.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports and assessment documentation to meet legal and procedural requirements.
  • Ensure that parents students (as appropriate) and staff receive appropriate notifications and documents as required by federal and state guidelines and district procedures.
  • Coordinate and facilitate site Evaluation Team Meetings (EMT) as directed by the principal.
  • Plan for continuing evaluation and reassessment of students progress in special education.
  • Organize services and facilitate the transfer process of special education students who enroll in the district throughout the school year and/or move to another school within the district.
  • Develop effective and positive working relationships with students parents teachers administrators specialists and outside agencies.
  • Meet professional responsibilities in a punctual and reliable manner.
  • Serve as resource for staff with respect to state and federal laws for IDEA and other special services.
  • Participates and engages in professional learning communities (PLC).
  • Utilize inclusive practices to support all learners.
  • Differentiate instruction (product process content practice) to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Provide evidence of personal continuous learning and growth in grade level/subject.

Other Functions:

  • Current academic knowledge in subject area.
  • Assessment and evaluation techniques including psychometric procedures.
  • Current laws regulations and issues surrounding confidential records and student information.
  • Current research and best practices in medical and psychology fields pertaining to special education.
  • Discipline rules and regulations as defined by the federal and state rules and regulations including IDEA 97.
  • Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP) related to student discipline and Individual Educational Programs (IEP).
  • Curriculum and instruction programs proven to be beneficial to pupils with special learning needs.
  • Social emotional and behavioral characteristics of preschool and school age students.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Must possess current valid Washington State ESA Certificate with School Psychology endorsement Will accept a Conditional ESA Certificate.
  • Masters degree in Psychology.
  • Perform a variety of psychological behavioral social physical and emotional educational assessments to aid in diagnosis of specific learning emotional and behavioral disabilities.
  • Prepare recommendations for the development implementation and monitoring of individual education programs pertaining to student remediation and placement in special programs.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the site evaluation team and other staff members to assist in planning and implementing the most effective education program/services for students.
  • Interpret assessment and evaluation data from the evaluation team and outside agencies to students as appropriate parents and staff.
  • Collaborate with other service providers and parents in providing programs/services for students.
  • Consult with parents to further their understanding of the learning and/or emotional disability processes pertaining to their child.
  • Participate in long range planning with staff and administrators to maintain a high level of psychological services and meet compliance regulations.
  • As requested attend professional conferences and inservices as appropriate to students served.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate total program effectiveness.
  • Successful involvement in a professional learning community.
  • Selfdirect and independently prioritize work and adhere to all timelines.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Successful and recent experience as a psychologist in a school setting.
  • Interest in and evidence of continued professional growth as a psychologist providing assistance to students and staff.
