Pay Range: $35.27 $51.17 / hour

Fulltime PM: 3 12hour shifts per week

Unit Details:
The Neurology and Neurosurgery Unit is a new name and focus for an existing unit known as M8. This 25bed acute care unit is for general neurology and postsurgical neurosurgery patients. It also provides specialized care for patients with neurological disorders including epilepsy myasthenia gravis (MG) GuillainBarr syndrome (GBS) encephalopathy and multiple sclerosis (MS) as well as patients recovering from strokes and brain or spinal surgeries. Nurses on this neuro unit have a unique opportunity to establish care on a new unit and participate in a team nursing care model that partners each nurse with one patient care technician (PCT) which allows nurses to practice at the top of their scope and provide the highest quality of care and overall patient experience. UAB Neurology and Neurosurgery is consistently ranked among the top 50 programs of its kind nationally by U.S. News & World Report which also has ranked UABs program as No. 1 in Alabama. Job Description:
To utilize the nursing process to care and/or counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness and injury. Using a systematic criticalthinking approach to guide data gathering assessment nursing judgment intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through activities such as health teaching health counseling and the provision of care supportive and restorative of life and supportive of a peaceful death. To identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model. To delegate coordinate and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the patient their family and our community in a timely and costeffective manner. To deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient their family and all members of the health care team and with the knowledge of a licensed physician psychologist podiatrist and/or dentist.

Minimum RequirementsAssociates degree in Nursing and two 2 years of related experience required. Work experience mayNOT substitute for education requirement. If job is in a freestanding emergency department (FSED) location one 1 year of experience required must be emergency or ICU nursing experience.Licenses / Certifications / RegistrationsCurrently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursingrequired. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required orshould be obtained within thirty 30 days of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA is required within six (six 6 months from date of hire to role. Depending on the unit/department Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the AHA or other comparable certification as appropriate for the age of patients to be treated may be required within six (six 6 months from date of hire to role.
