The Service & Team:

The Statutory SEN Service sits within the Inclusion and SEND Service which provides a wide range of support to families in Cornwall. Area Casework Officers manage a team of Casework Officers in Cornwalls Statutory SEN Service. The teams coordinate key processes for children and young people with complex special educational needs. This includes education health and care (EHC) needs assessments as well as reviewing the progress of children and young people with EHC plans. There are 5100 children and young people from 025 years of age in Cornwall who have EHC plans.

The Role:

As a senior member of staff within this strong team you will lead by example delivering high performance within the legal frameworks and supporting and developing casework officers.

The post holders of Statutory SEN Area Casework Officers represent the Local Authority and collaborate with families schools and various professionals. They oversee statutory SEN functions in their designated area manage complex cases and provide support to other Casework Officers. Responsibilities include attending meetings participating in decisionmaking panels and monitoring provision through data collection. Working closely with the Manager of the Statutory SEN Service they plan and deliver key aspects of SEN activities and contribute to strategic developments. Overall the aim is to secure the best outcomes for children and young people with SEND through collaborative efforts and adherence to statutory processes/timescales.

This role is varied and busy no two days are ever the same and full support and training is provided to our new members of staff.

This is a public/customerfacing role where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

What youll need to succeed:

You will possess a comprehensive understanding of the Children and Families Act 2014 (part 3 and the SEND Code of Practicealong with a sound knowledge of special educational needs within educational settings and the local authority context.

You should be adept at communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences both verbally and in writing with the ability to engage with groups in various settings. Strong IT skills are essential including the capacity to interpret and act upon data effectively.

Additionally you should demonstrate excellent teamwork abilities while also being able to work autonomously and prioritise tasks efficiently. You should exhibit managerial prowess in supporting and developing staff as well as the capacity to make wellfounded decisions based on evidence and criteria.

Sensitivity and assertiveness in conveying information even if unwelcome are crucial alongside relevant experience in health education or social care environments including direct involvement with children young people and families with special educational needs.
