Job Description

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) at Cornell is a worldclass department that conducts research and teaching in the areas of molecular biology and genetics. Within MBG the Lee laboratory investigates the basic biology of aging. The Lee lab employs genetic genomics molecular and cell biological approaches using the freeliving soil nematode C. elegans as a model. This work is relevant to understanding aging and agedependent diseases in humans.

A Research Technician position is available in the Lee Lab within the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics to provide Research Technical Administrative support of lab operations. Research support includes but not limited to: A variety of experiments with guidance and support from other lab personnel; conducting genetic crosses and phenotypic characterization of C. elegans strains; molecular biology work involving DNA RNA protein; microscopy; genomic techniques and bioinformatic analysis of highthroughput sequencing data. Technical support includes but not limited to: Preparation of stock plates media reagents and supplies for daily experiments. Administrative support includes but not limited to: order reagents and supplies; arrange for maintenance and repair of lab equipment.

This is a fulltime 12month appointment with possible extension depending on the availability of funding.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity equity access inclusion and wellbeing.
  • Bachelors degree with major in biological sciences or equivalent with additional 4 years of lab experience in a related research area.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting to achieve departmental and research lab goals.
  • Exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the research lab and the Department.
  • Familiarity with basic computer programs such as MS Word Excel; visual concentration and manual dexterity are required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work with a wide variety of people.
  • Awareness that protocols and procedures adhere to safety requirements.
  • Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities genders ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students faculty staff and community members.
