POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Special Accounts is responsible for managing and overseeing the Special Accounts portfolio for their respective region. This role involves developing and managing the Special Accounts team members as well as maintaining the quality of the Special Accounts loan portfolio for their region.

The AVP will be responsible for ensuring that team members exercise sound judgment and adhere to good governance practices by complying with established business rules guidelines and procedures. Additionally the role involves providing highquality customer care to support entrepreneurs and developing strategies to enhance account performance and/or minimize the banks losses.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Contribute to the profitability of BDC by minimizing losses and assessing risk arising from BDCs special accounts through sound management practices. Work with the Regional Directors to identify the best course of action that will provide BDC with highest potential of recovery for BDC while minimizing reputational risk.

  • Authorize recommend or decline loans disbursements amendments and account administration while ensuring the highest caliber of rehabilitation realization or liquidation best practices that satisfy both BDC and the borrower within established guidelines.

  • Participate actively in determining loan structures terms conditions pricing fees to restructure financing in a way that is consistent with sound risk management practices.

  • Participate in recommending changes to the policies procedures guides and business rules that relate to Special Accounts and provide support to employees in their interpretation and application.

  • Work collaboratively with various internal stakeholders including Operations Finance Legal and Risk in order to enhance visibility of Special Accounts increase their understanding of what can be done to assist mutual clients and closely monitor the relationship.

  • Communicate BDCs values mission and overall strategic objectives and strategies to team members.

  • Coach guide and develop Regional Directors and Account Managers in all aspects of credit risk management and provide input to performance assessments by being vigilant in recognizing their strengths and weaknesses and participating in identifying training and development solutions for them

  • Ensure increase productivity and efficiency by overseeing the development of performance indicators and types of reports required to track progress of portfolio

  • Develop and maintain relationships with various professional networks financial communities suppliers and counterparts in other organizations in order to remain abreast of legislative developments emerging trends and their relevance to BDCs needs

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Undergraduate degree in finance or business administration.

  • At least 1015 years of relevant experience in finance and commerce (professional or business services firms) or in business financing (financial institution).

  • Minimum of 710 of experience in management.

  • Experience in restructuring/insolvency or credit risk management position is an asset.

  • Professional designation (CPA CA CGA CMA or CIRP) and/or masters degree is an asset.

  • Ability to quickly identify the business context and key issues supported by strong risk management skills.

  • Excellent judgment and creative problemsolving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to effectively obtain information and communicate issues

  • Solid leadership skills and ability to manage a regional team across multiple provinces. Broad understanding of human resources and business processes and risks associated with them.

  • Ability to manage train and coach a team of highly specialized professionals.

  • Ability to work independently.
