Job Description

The lab of Jeremy Chase Crawford in the Department of HostMicrobe Interactions is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Scientist to develop and implement novel technical approaches for assaying single cell dynamics high throughput functional screening and high parameter molecular phenotyping. This position will work at the crosssection of immunology molecular methods development and integrative analytics to better our understanding of childhood immune development immune perturbation from disease and treatment and hostpathogen interactions. As a key stakeholder in these efforts you will utilize your expertise in molecular biology cellular biology nextgeneration sequencing precision robotics microfluidics and laboratory management to advance a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative research program. You will also have the opportunity to play a formative role in building the broader laboratory team and research program with involvement in assay development experimental design data generation and integrative data analysis. Ultimately this position has the potential to be a leader in the formation of a novel R&Dfocused collaborative hub that provides expertise and infrastructure for rapid adoption of novel biotechnologies innovative approaches to biological data generation and integrative analyses of large multimodal biological datasets.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and detailoriented with interests in integrative biology human immune variation and molecular assay development. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Success in this position also requires: the ability to multitask the ability to collaborate effectively and working in tandem with multiple members of a culturally and scientifically diverse team to achieve assigned research objectives.

Candidates with experience in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Development and optimization of nextgeneration sequencingbased assays.
  • Singlecell transcriptomics/multiomics.
  • Phage ImmunoPrecipitation Sequencing (PhIPSeq).
  • Nextgeneration proteomics (e.g. Olink SomaScan).
  • Development/management of multifunctional scientific teams.
  • Immunology microbiology or hostmicrobe interactions.
  • Large crossfield collaborations using human samples.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts experiments/projects independently under overall direction of the Prinicpal Investigator and/or more senior scientist.
  • Develops new research protocols techniques and procedures.
  • Identifies experimental data pertinent to the analysis problem. Processes organizes and summarizes data reporting these experimental results. Monitors quality and integrity of recorded information and data. Ensures data collection and entry methods meet quality standards. Interprets data as it relates to research problem.
  • May publish as coauthor and/or draft sections of research manuscripts as necessary. Presents research to colleagues within the organization or at external meetings/events.
  • Provides lab operation support and makes recommendations regarding equipment use and maintenance supplies etc. Troubleshoots instrument and equipment issues. Provides input into lab operation processes and procedures. Recommends equipment acquisition and decommissioning.
  • Regularly trains and oversees the work of others in laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelors degree in relevant scientific area is required

Minimum Experience:

  • Ten 10 years relevant work experience is required
  • Eight 8 years of relevant work experience is required with a Masters degree
  • Five 5 years of relevant work experience is required with a PhD

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets experience and training licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $104000 $186160 per year for the role of Senior Scientist NextGen Sequencing (NGS) Assay Development for Crawford Lab.
