As the Senior Manager Tax Reporting & Planning you will contribute to the overall success of the Client Tax Operations & Advisory Centre of Excellence (Tax COE) in Canada. You will oversee & manage tax administration and reporting to ensure that Canadian investment funds comply with all aspects of applicable tax regulations. You will also provide tax related support/advisory to other areas including product development sales client administration financial reporting and fund accounting.

This is a term position.

Is this role right for you In this role you will:

  • Oversee monthly/quarterly/mock/yearend distributions for the investment funds
  • Manage compliance in all tax areas including investor tax slips reconciliation and reporting FATCA/CRS annual tax returns for the investment funds (trusts corporate funds and limited partnerships) GST/HST filings and other tax filings as required
  • Review and provide guidance concerning fund specific transactions (i.e. daily corporate actions fund mergers etc. to various internal groups
  • Liaise with internal clients such as Sales and Marketing on various initiatives and advise Product Development on tax matters related to fund reorganizations and new investment product launches as required
  • Provide advisory to other teams within the Tax COE on client Canadian and US tax withholdings/remittance & reporting
  • Provide advisory relating to governance framework required to ensure ongoing operational compliance of CRA FATCA CRS IRS (QI US filing) and other applicable regulatory tax requirements
  • Act as a subject matter expert for tax related queries from Customer Relations Centre and/or the Sales team
  • Liaise with internal financial and CRA auditors during audits
  • Liaise with and provide oversight of work performed by service providers
  • Act as a contact person with tax authorities including dealing with notice of assessments and other tax inquires
  • Coordinate and review work performed by foreign tax agents with respect to foreign tax calculations and reporting required for the investment funds
  • Manage tax vs. GAAP differences and work closely with the preparation of financial statements to ensure all tax vs. GAAP differences are captured and planned for in advance of the financial statements
  • Keep current on new developments within the company and industry through networking and industry seminars
  • Work on special projects as assigned by the Director Tax Reporting & Planning as required

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role Wed love to work with you if you have:

  • CPA designation
  • A minimum of 7 years experience in the tax practice of a public accounting firm or equivalent industry experience
  • Completion of CPA InDepth Tax Program is an asset
  • Previous exposure to a full range of tax issues affecting investment funds including GST/HST and registered products
  • Knowledge of FATCA and CRS requirements including providing guidance and reporting
  • Knowledge of Qualified Intermediary (QI) compliance and related reporting
  • Experience with tax reporting for trusts corporations and limited partnerships
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively while managing multiple tasks
  • Innovative thinking focused on improving control effectiveness and efficiency and a proven orientation to results
  • Excellent communication relationship influencing and interpersonal skills
