Safety and Security Coordinator
Position Overview:
The Safety and Security Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff within the Coos Bay School District. This role includes actively participating in emergency preparedness efforts including tsunami preparedness and conducting ALICE (Alert Lockdown Inform Counter Evacuate) training for staff and students. The position involves a proactive approach to emergency planning collaboration with local safety agencies and the continuous improvement of safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tsunami Preparedness:
- Develop implement and maintain tsunami preparedness plans for all district schools.
- Coordinate and conduct regular tsunami evacuation drills and training for students staff and faculty.
- Work with local authorities emergency management agencies and the community to ensure uptodate tsunami safety protocols.
- Ensure all schools have appropriate signage evacuation routes and tsunami safety kits.
- Educate students and staff about tsunami risks safety procedures and evacuation plans.
- Stay informed on current tsunami risks and warnings for the Coos Bay area.
- ALICE Training:
- Facilitate ALICE (Alert Lockdown Inform Counter Evacuate) training sessions for staff faculty and students to prepare for active shooter situations or other immediate threats.
- Ensure all staff members are trained in ALICE procedures and regularly conduct refresher courses.
- Customize ALICE training to address specific needs or situations within the districts schools.
- Lead practice drills and simulations to ensure staff and students can respond effectively during a crisis.
- Continuously evaluate and update training materials to keep them relevant to current safety protocols and best practices.
- Emergency Response Coordination:
- Act as the primary liaison with local emergency management agencies fire departments law enforcement and other relevant organizations to ensure comprehensive safety protocols are in place.
- Monitor and manage emergency response plans for various scenarios including natural disasters active threats and medical emergencies.
- Assist in the development of schoolspecific emergency response plans and protocols in alignment with district policies and state regulations.
- Safety Protocol Maintenance:
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments at district facilities to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Review and update safety plans and protocols based on feedback from staff students and emergency response drills.
- Provide recommendations for improvements to enhance overall safety and emergency preparedness within the district.
- Community Engagement and Communication:
- Work with the district communications team to ensure effective messaging about safety drills procedures and resources for students parents and staff.
- Lead community outreach efforts to raise awareness about tsunami preparedness and active shooter safety campus safety and ensuring that families understand the districts emergency response strategies.
- Other Duties as Assigned:
- Attend relevant training sessions workshops and conferences to stay current on emergency preparedness strategies and regulations.
- Participate in district safety committees or working groups to improve overall safety within the district.
