JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Leads the state project construction function for the Project Delivery business unit with focus on transmission and distribution. Incumbent is a Bonafede leader of people who is widely respected and trusted by Entergys Contract Partners and possesses the ability to quickly understand the culture of construction as well as mentoring/coaching others on effective construction leadership.
An understanding of the requirements of leading all phases of construction projects the differences between the construction trades differences in leading open shop and closed shop construction projects and effectively interfacing with the entire workforce (contract partners as wells ENT employees). In addition the incumbent should possess the skills to foster good relationship between craft employees and construction leaders as well as the intuition when it is not working effectively.
Strongly embraces continuous improvement and is constantly developing the construction leadership and functional capabilities required for Entergy to be effective at managing construction projects across a series of transmission and distribution construction portfolios and others as needed.
Strong advocate for the partnering process with key stakeholders such contractors and other internal/external support groups across ENT. Actively facilitates or participates in the partnering events at the executive and project levels within PD. Understands how to interface with key stakeholders such as Engineering Supply Chain Project Management key industrial and residential customers etc.
An effective communicator who will frequently stand in front of the workforce and convey ENTs commitment to safety DIB and other performance metrics. Builds strong relationship with EPC (including subcontractors) and baseload vendors in which are directly contracted by Entergy Project Teams to deliver project scopes to ensure clear channels of communication and resolution to performance issues.
Has the technical competence to establish construction standards and practices for all types of capital projects with specific focus on transmission and distribution. Ensures that the projects are staffed with qualified construction management professionals and field personnel for the effective oversight of construction contractors and their subcontractors.
A passionate advocate for safety who promotes an incident free workplace and cultivates a safe work culture. Understands the foundations for a strong safety culture in its most genuine form and actively participates in safety initiatives at the project site to demonstrate commitment.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads the state project construction function for Transmission and distribution for the Entergy project delivery business unit. Ensures that expectations regarding the risk and safe performance of construction activities are communicated and reinforced with construction employees contractors and subcontractors. Directs and/or monitors site safety practices and field personnel behavior.Develops construction leaders and creates a construction leadership pipeline.
- Develops the Partnering approach with Project Management and assures that it exists across all projects.Provides input into the creation of construction quality standards and practices that are owned by the Power delivery Chief Engineer for projects executed by Entergy Project Delivery business unit. Works with baseload vendors EPC contractors and their subcontractors to ensure that the quality standards are met and with Supply Chain to ensure the standards are integrated into EPC and direct contracted agreements. Ensures outages are identified to minimize customer impacts and Risk reviews are completed for those Tier 1 customers and generators.
- Ensures that the projects are staffed with qualified construction management professionals and field personnel for the oversight of construction contractors and their subcontractors. Collaborate with Supply Chain and provide management for the procurement negotiation and administration of construction and equipment supply agreements necessary to execute the projects.
- Builds and leads a team of construction professionals (employees and contractors) which effectively engage with baseload and EPC contractors and their subcontractors in the field to achieve the objectives of the projects. Maintains a roster of contract personnel for executing construction and closeout activities for major projects.
- Maintains relationships with the construction leadership of the baseload and EPC contractors and their subcontractors for the purposes of ensuring clear communications of Entergy expectations for safety and quality performance and resolving performance issues.
- Leads the resolution of field construction problems in coordination with engineering staff third parties and others as needed. Plays key role in negotiating with contractors regarding changes to design construction work scope and schedules for Transmission and distribution projects.
- Works closely with other groups within Project Delivery and with Power Delivery. Attends progress meetings develops status reports and delivers presentations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Construction Management or related field or equivalent work experience.
- Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum Experience
- 8 years in Utility industry or equivalent relevant experience in capital project management and 3 years supervisory experience.
- Preferred candidate would have at least 5 years of transmission construction experience plus 2 or more years of power generation plant major project experience.
Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Engaged leader with a documented legacy of strategic leadership with specific accomplishments in successfully delivering capital projects/portfolios.
- Solid understanding of construction fundamentals and stagegate processes focused on safely delivering a large portfolio of Power Delivery projects with cost schedule and scope certainty.
- Experienced in risk and contingency management.
- Skilled at leading and influencing across organizations partnering with contract firms negotiation obtaining stakeholder input and support driving continuous improvement ideas improving organizational health transforming organizations and improving customer centricity.
- Able to build motivate and inspire effective teams and leverage team diversity.
- Expert at managing conflict providing clear direction/role clarity and developing employees.
- Comfortable engaging in crucial conversations. Legacy of building productive relationships across the organization and with external parties.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams to effectively achieve desired results and leading in a matrixed environment.
