Job Description

Compensation: $620 per week

Environment for the Americas (EFTA) and Birdability in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) seek to engage young professionals in natural resource careers. For this position we also welcome applicants with experience managing visual hearing or mobility challenges or who are neurodivergent.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

No personal vehicle is required for this position.

Position Description

As an Accessible Birding Intern you will play a vital role in developing and implementing this program. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing park facilities and programming to identify accessible programming opportunities.

  • Developing activities tailored to specific accessibility challenges and addressing sitespecific issues.

  • Piloting birding activities in parks and refining them based on feedback.

  • Coordinating and hosting an accessibilityfocused World Migratory Bird Day event at paired NPS sites as a capstone activity.

  • Creating online resources to support other parks interested in implementing similar initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Passion for wildlife conservation and accessibility/inclusion.

  • Strong commitment to communication and learning.

  • Prior experience with training or addressing accessibility challenges is a plus.

  • Knowledge of or interest in birds and birding including the use of binoculars is desirable.

Requirements

  • Be between the ages of 1830 (or up to 35 if a veteran).

  • College affiliation is not required.

  • Must be available for onsite work periodically and able to travel regularly to the site.

  • Hybrid work model: 50 onsite and 50 remote.
