LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR SUPPLEMENT
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Responsible for coordinating the secondary instructional program (grades seven through twelve) and all fine arts activities. The Secondary Director reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and works collaboratively with other C&I directors to implement a successful PreKindergarten through twelfthgrade instructional program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates and assists with the implementation of the core and elective curricula in grades seven through twelve.
- Collects organizes and analyzes test data to note trends problem areas and noteworthy initiatives
- Monitors student achievement applies best practices and assists with the coordination of instructional programs
- Encourages instructional innovation and researchbased practices in secondary schools
- Assists secondary schools in evaluating materials and textbooks
- Maintains current knowledge of state and national curriculum standards and initiatives
- Participates in secondary school activities as well as the greater Catawba County Community
- Defines and oversees the fine arts programs and activities of the secondary schools; works with school principals on best implementing the programs at each school; continuously reviews the programs and determines the need to add or delete activities
- Participates in the formation of the annual school district budget; manages both the secondary and fine arts budgeting; purchases equipment and supplies for each division as needed
- Maintains appropriate records of scheduled events and student activities
- Provides information to the local media when appropriate
- Communicates with parents who have concerns related to discipline and academics.
- Oversees the staterequired Career and College Ready for each high school.
- Coordinates the credit recovery program; works with principals counselors and online facilitators to ensure students have the courses needed to graduate.
- Serves on the district reading committee and the districts book challenge committee.
- Assist with creating and monitoring the progress of schoolbased instructional plans.
- Coordinates how schools provide class sections to Online Catawba.
- Collaborates with the local community college to coordinate the Career and College Promise program.
- Oversees the High School Scholars Academy Program in partnership with LenoirRhyne University.
- Participates in the administration of the GEAR UP grant in partnership with Appalachian State University.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Facilitates grant proposals in specified areas
- Serves on committees as assigned
- Facilitates staff development activities for secondary schools
- Attend workshops conferences or seminars as assigned
- Frequently attends evening artrelated events and activities for the countys secondary schools.
- Maintains various records and statistics; creates annual reports to fulfill state and local requirements
- Monitors budget expenditures
- Works with fine arts teachers in scheduling secondary events within Catawba County Schools
- Recognizes outstanding fine arts accomplishments for students and teachers at Catawba County Board of Education meetings
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in the areas of supervision curriculum or administration
- At least five years of successful teaching or administrative experience at the middle school high school or district level
- Demonstrated leadership management and supervision skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Administrative experience at both the middle and high school levels is preferred.
