Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for conducting internal and external investigations and for maintaining high visibility on school property to prevent and respond to crimes against district property students and personnel.

REPORTS TO: Campus Police InvestigatorSergeant

SALARY SCHEDULE:Grade 12

WORK DAYS: 250

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: A GED or a standard high school diploma from a GaDOEapproved and accredited institution is required.

Experience Skill and Certification:

  • Certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training council (POST) as a police officer
  • Police academy or training in specific areas of security procedures and investigation Ability to operate emergency equipment weapons and motor vehicles
  • Ability to maintain crowd control
  • Ability to work rapidly and accurately with names codes and symbols
  • Ability to prepare accurate and concise written reports
  • Ability to maintain security of confidential materials
  • Ability to judge when to act independently and when to refer situations to supervisor
  • Ability to work cooperatively with employees students parents and public
  • Knowledge of basic law to include criminal and civil statutes
  • Knowledge of police procedures Criminal Code of Georgia Juvenile Court Code and Basic Law Enforcement
  • Ability to work with principals administrators and other school personnel with regard to juvenile or adult offense and to arbitrate for restitution

Preferred:Previous experience in law enforcement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Enforces regulations and procedures in order to assure the safety of district property personnel and students.
  2. Responsible for maintaining high visibility on school campus in order to safeguard district property maintains safety of students and staff.
  3. Establishes Police presence at assigned sites. Conducts investigations of incidents as assigned.
  4. Investigates student misconduct; conducts investigations of incident within the school district as requested.
  5. Investigates incidents related to burglary theft arson malicious mischief criminal trespass and s and writes appropriate reports.
  6. Interviews apprehends arrests transports books and advises suspects of certain constitutional rights. Interviews citizens informants victims witnesses and suspects.
  7. Responds to silent alarm calls and fire alarm calls to determine cause and take appropriate action.
  8. Analyzes investigative information and develops a plan of action. Identifies marks collects and preserves physical evidence.
  9. Conforms to prescribed safety standards.
  10. Communicates on a periodic ongoing basis to the Campus Police InvestigatorSergeant regarding all pending investigative matters.
  11. Informs Site Supervisor of results of any investigation at the site and provides a written report.
  12. Prepares reports and case files on investigations and arrests.
  13. Testifies in criminal and administrative procedures.
  14. Attend meetings and participate in community outreach initiatives.
  15. May be required to work events such as sporting events meetings concerts graduations and/or any other related type of activities after and beyond normal working hours.
  16. Performs other duties as necessary for the safe and effective operation of the school and district.

  4. Maintain a valid Georgia drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered at will. This position is considered to be essential personnel critical staff when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRBR Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules. Appropriate pay will be determined based on Grade 12 and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources. The work calendar will be 250 days the position is nonexempt. Rev 072023

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY DEMANDS

OFFICE Employees in this category are normally exposed to a typical environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting standing or ambulating. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies as well as bending stooping or stretching. There is frequent use of computers telephone and other standard office equipment which includes reading listening writing or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.

X SPECIAL JOB LOCATION AND CONDITIONS: Duties are performed in and out of an office setting; requires travel to various locations of Chatham County and other locations throughout the United States as required. Requires driving a County vehicle. Operates equipment to include mobile and portable radios firearms tranquilizer gun telephone copier computer keyboard and calculator. Performs work safely in accordance with department safety procedures and the County Safety Program. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor.

EXCEPTIONAL PHYSICAL OR SENSORY DEMANDS (Check any that apply to this job and complete the required information.

x Occasional heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds of materials for recruitment fairs etc. Frequent climbing up to feet and/or working on building roofs.

Exposure to heavy dust dirt chemical or paint fumes and other airborne matter. x Exposure to extreme heat electric current hazardous chemicals or other potential hazards.

x Sitting or standing for extended periods with no control over rest periods.

X Other: Incumbents may be required to restrain students or adults in potentially violent situations. There may be circumstances that require climbing stooping lifting running crawling and other demanding physical activity. Eyesight may be corrected but must be very good even in low light. Long periods of seated travel by car between locations will be required. There may be prolonged periods of standing and walking.
