Job Description

Title: PartTime Associate Instructor ELA
Reports To: Senior Manager of Teaching and Learning
FLSA: Parttime Seasonal
Compensation: $32 hourly
Location: Guilford County North Carolina (Remote)
Spring Semester Dates:

  • PreSemester Orientation: Wed Feb 12 5:308:30pm)
  • Programming Dates: Feb 22May 17
    • This includes Saturday programming & some weekday evenings. Please see the full schedule below.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Associate Instructors will join SEOs community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Associate Instructors coteach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction teach mini lessons organize small group and oneonone instruction and provide additional Scholar support. Associate Instructors are the first to cover when there is an instructor absence and do not have grading responsibilities. Associate Instructors coteach ELA and Identity and Empowerment (IE) for 9th 10th or 11th grade Scholars.

SEO North Carolina is a bichronous program for Scholars with lesson instruction is held 100 online facilitated through Zoom.

COURSES
ELA Associate Instructors will be hired for either 9th 10th or 11th grade based on their content expertise. ELA Associate Instructors will also coteach 1 period of our Identity & Empowerment (IE) class. The following courses are taught in Spring based on the grade level:

English Language Arts Courses:

  • 9th Grade: Theory of Intelligence
  • 10th Grade: Critical Media Analysis
  • 11th Grade: Personal Statement Writing

Identity & Empowerment Courses:

  • 9th Grade: Personal and Social Identities
  • 10th Grade: Identity and Mental Health
  • 11th Grade: Supplemental Statement Writing

PROGRAMMING DATES TIMES AND HOURS

  • Selfguided Asynchronous Instructor Training: New Instructional staff will complete Asynchronous Training that equates to 10 hours of work. This can be completed on your own time and will be completed prior to the start of programming.
  • Instructor Orientations: Wednesday February 12 5:308:30pm on Zoom
  • Meet the Instructors: 9th Grade Instructors meet incoming SEO Scholars: Wednesday February 19 5:306:30pm
  • Instruction: February 22May 17:
  • Synchronous Online Instruction
    • Saturday Academy programming 9:35am2:15pm
    • 02/22 03/01 03/08 03/22 04/05 04/12 04/19 05/03 05/10 05/17
  • Asynchronous Academic Support
    • Hold office hours meet with Student Advisor and engage with Scholars work asynchronously
    • Thursdays from 5:307:30pm on select weeks
    • 02/2402/28 03/1003/14 03/2403/28 04/0704/11 04/2104/25 05/1205/16

The Instructors weekly hours are made up of standard and flex expectations varying based on the programming weeks. Weekly hours will range from 1018 hours/week based on asynchronous or synchronous weeks of programming.

  • Standard Hours are when the instructor must be working synchronously with staff or students
    • Saturday Academy: 9:35am2:15pm
    • Asynchronous Week Office Hours: Thursday evenings 5:307:30pm on select weeks
  • Flex Hours make up the additional instructor work educators know go into the job. This is time spent preparing for the lesson grading entering gradebook data writing Scholar feedback communicating with staff and Scholars etc. These are hours put in outside of the required schedule and can be completed asynchronously throughout the week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Online Instruction & Facilitation CoTeach four to five periods including ELA and Identity & Empowerment classes. When asked to cover for another instructor Associate Instructors will lead the class on their own. Follow provided lesson plans and meet lesson objectives abiding by SEOs articulated criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement.
  • Navigate Instructional Technologies Learn and efficiently utilize our instructional technologies such as Zoom (video conferencing and chat) Brightspace (Learning Management System) Desmos and GSuit applications.
  • Content Preparation Read internalize and practice all lesson plans and materials provided by SEO prior to teaching. Implement thoughtful adjustments to pacing and activities based on specific student needs.
  • Classroom Culture Project an energetic engaging and approachable persona to promote students connection to the content investment in the learning experience and positive relationship to all members of the community.
  • Collaboration with SEO Staff and Other Instructors Plan and work alongside an Instructor to build optimal experiences for Scholar learning in coteaching and/or single instruction models. Attend all scheduled meetings professional development trainings checkins and debriefs and respond to all emails and Zoom chats in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in content related field
  • Experience working with high schoolaged students
  • Comfortable with and skilled at navigating technological learning systems
  • Understanding and practice of studentcentered pedagogy
  • Depth of knowledge in Advanced high schoollevel Mathematics

Preferred:

  • Secondary Education Degree and high school teaching experience
  • Online Course Facilitation Experience
  • Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Certifications PD course completions and/or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies
  • Experience with Online Learning (or elearning) Tutoring or Instruction other than Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT)
  • North Carolina resident with teaching experience in NC schools.

COMPENSATION

This position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local state and federal regulations.

The compensation listed in this posting reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law compensation will be determined based on the skills qualifications and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position and SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
