The opportunity
In the role of Safety Specialist working primarily out of Calgary Alberta you will report to the Contractor Safety Manager and will support the site and office team dedicated to your assigned projects on the implementation oversight and promotion of safety awareness. The safety Specialist ensures that project is conducted in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable provincial/federal Occupational Health and Safety Environmental and Workers Compensation legislation by integrating and implementing company and 3rd party HSE policies and procedures.
What youll do
- Manage the company health and safety programs at a field level driving a safetyoriented approach to work
- Implementing and monitoring corporate safety policies and procedures
- Assisting in safety program development and continual improvement
- Assure our contractors programs meet requirements and expectations.
- Site support for projects as required
- Complete and / or support incident investigation (ex. RCFA process) as required
- Provide corrective action recommendations and assist in implementing metrics for tracking and reporting on performance
- Provide oversight at project site locations to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure safety regulation compliance
- Routinely monitor the workforce for safe and unsafe behaviors and coach workforce on the correct behaviors when observed
- Develop and support the implementation of health and safety documentation specific to fieldbased activities and projects
- Complete audits and reviews on fieldbased safety documentation (Company & Contractor)
- Interpret safety regulations specific to projects
- Coordinate and present safety training to support company requirements
- Administrative activities associated to health and safety requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 6 years of related experience
- Familiarity with federal / provincial OHS codes and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety will be considered an asset
- A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation will be considered an asset
- Bilingual (English and French speaking) would be considered an asset
This position requires candidates to:
- Have and maintain a valid drivers license and provide a drivers abstract (record) for review
- Will have access to Pool Vehicles to travel to various sites as needed
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments meetings or training (estimated up 40 of work schedule)
