Site Medical Director Emergency Department

COMPANY SUMMARY:
Founded and led by Physicians since 2011 Integrative Emergency Services (IES) is dedicated to cultivating best practices in emergency care providing comprehensive acute care services creating value and supporting patients employees clients providers and physicians in pursuit of the highest quality health care. IES comprises of a network of over 1400 clinicians health system partners in 8 states and offers clinically integrated services to care for overpatients each year.

POSITION SUMMARY:
IES is seeking a Site Medical Director for the Emergency Department at Andalusia Health in Andalusia AL. The SMD is responsible for both providing care as an Emergency Physician within their scope of practice and the oversight and management of the clinical and administrative aspects of the Emergency Department and provider care team(s) at client hospitals of IES and its subsidiaries. This role is responsible for informing teams of policies procedures and objectives and will be instrumental in ensuring that the key performance indicators (KPIs) and key performance measures (KPMs) are attained. Will interface with key members of IES Corporate Clinical Operational and Hospital leadership regarding the development and of service plan goals. Will be responsible for assisting in several key areas including but not limited to policy education and development improving departmental efficiency patient complaint and incident resolution workforce management and interdepartmental care coordination.


SITE SUMMARY:
Andalusia Healthis a Joint Commissionaccredited 88bed acute care facility
and offers a wide range of diagnostic therapeutic emergency and surgical services cardiac cath lab for diagnostic procedures inpatient dialysis radiation oncology chemotherapy and infusion services. Facility includes a 10bed ER. The ER has 24hour Physician coverage 10 hours of APP coverage & 21k annual visits.EMR Medhost.Leap Frog A hospital safety grade awarded 2024.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include the following. Others may be assigned.
  • Operational Oversight:
    • Responsible for managing daytoday operations of their provider care team(s)
    • Ensure that team(s) are aware of clinical and quality objectives
    • Provide medical oversight and ensure appropriate diagnoses and treatment plans
    • Conduct peer chart reviews with predetermine criteria in regular intervals at least monthly
    • Responsible for identifying and addressing clinical concerns and performance issues within the care team(s)
    • Responsible for updating all relevant IES and Hospital staff on performance and results
  • Clinical Leadership:
    • Supervise and mentor ED staff and act as a key liaison for the group
    • Educate and train team(s) on best clinical practices and thorough charting procedures
    • Analyze data to identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actions
    • Collaborate with hospital administration and department leaders to ensure the safe effective and efficient continuity of patient care; serving on key committees as needed and requested
    • Lead quality assurance initiatives to monitor and improve patient care outcomes
  • Workforce Management:
    • Responsible for taking part in the interviewing hiring and onboarding processes
    • Responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing coverage is maintained
    • Ensure that staffing and financial resources are utilized efficiently
    • Responsible for evaluating performance and providing ongoing feedback related to the quality of care delivery care coordination professionalism and adherence to policies procedures and compliance requirements established by hospital state local and federal guidelines
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Provide emergency medical care determining appropriate disposition (hospital admission or discharge as an outpatient with followup care as needed)
    • Treat a diverse patient population across various demographics and insurance statuses
    • Perform physical exams and necessary procedures within guidelines
    • Order tests diagnostics and treatments to assess patient conditions
    • Interpret lab tests imaging and ECGs as per physicians scope of practice
    • Prescribe medications and therapies including physical and inhalation therapy
    • Administer vaccinations and inoculations to prevent communicable diseases
    • Advise patients on disease prevention methods and refer patients to specialists as necessary
    • Accurately records patient information in electronic records per licensure standards
    • Attend required meetings and participate in quality improvement initiatives
    • Ensure compliance with patient safety regulations (e.g. HIPAA)
    • Perform other duties as assigned by IES and Hospital leadership

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Ability to read write and speak English proficiently

Education / Experience:
Required:
  • Physician (M.D. or D.O) with a current and unrestricted physician license in appropriate state or willingness to attain
  • Maintain appropriate Board Certification (Emergency preferred; Family or Internal Medicine also considered
  • Current DEA registration
  • ACLS
  • Eligible to participate in Medicare and Medicaid
  • Prior experience as a Medical Director or Assistant Medical Director
Preferred:
  • MBA or other advanced management degree is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Regularly required to sit; frequently stand and walk short distances; occasionally bend twist reach above shoulder level climb and kneel
  • Use their two hands to handle control or feel objects tools or controls.
  • Must occasionally lift and /or move up 50 pounds

  • All sensory functions (speech vision touch and hearing) corrected to near normal range
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding) and fine motor dexterity required to perform procedural skills
  • Environment: 100 indoors with normal indoor temperature and humidity
  • Job responsibilities or tasks may put individuals at risk for occupational exposure. Site specific written policies and procedures are available.
  • Other environmental hazards may include close contact with mechanical equipment and long periods at the computer screen; the noise level in this environment is moderate
