About the Program

The Tiwi Islands Childcare Centres provide high quality education based childcare services to the families of the Tiwi Islands community. The program facilitates activities designed to enhance early childhood learning based on the needs and interest of the children including the cultural physical social emotional language and learning development needs.

About the role

The position supports and mentors local staff and qualified educators to lead a safe joyful bothways education and care service for children aged 0 to 5 and their families. This position has a particular focus on driving continual improvement towards the National Quality Standards and developing the local workforce.

What we are looking for

• Diploma or above in Early Childhood Education and Care
• Experience in leading the operations of an approved childcare service
• Ability to mentor and develop a team
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to quickly build respectful relationships with children families and staff
• Current First Aid qualification (desirable)

TIWI ISLAND

Comprising Bathurst and Melville Islands with a population of around 2500 the Tiwi Islands are only 80km north of Darwin. The islands are home to the Tiwi people who have a strong affiliation with their land and a distinctive culture and language. There are school and medical facilities on the islands and regular plane passenger ferry and barge services operating from Darwin.

The Tiwi Islands are known as the islands of smiles. The Tiwi people are internationally renowned for their individual style of art including carvings and bright textile designs. Prized by collectors many Tiwi artists have exhibited around the world.
