Director of Facilities and Fleet
About the Organization Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
As a pivotal member of the Operations Branch the Director of Facilities & Fleet will spearhead the management of the Parks Conservancys diverse facilities and vehicle fleet. This role involves leading the Facilities & Fleet unit collaborating closely with the Chief Operations Officer to develop and execute strategic initiatives for facilities and fleet services. The Parks Conservancys portfolio encompasses approximately 24 unique facilities across three counties ranging from revenuegenerating sites to program service and administrative spaces including iconic historic locations like Alcatraz and Muir Woods. The Director will ensure seamless operations across this complex network maintaining buildings and grounds within the Parks Conservancy.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who fosters a culture of safety inclusivity and accessibility. This position requires adaptability active listening and empathetic communication to effectively engage with diverse staff. Passion for proactive facilities and fleet management coupled with an understanding of its impact on employee empowerment and organizational mission is essential. The Director will champion diversity equity and inclusion within the Operations Branch leadership ensuring alignment with the Parks Conservancys core values.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Facilities Financial Management and Administration:
- Tracks progress and overall budget for all projects undertaken with project budgets ranging from $50K $5 million. Prepares and oversees department budget; develops additional project budgets as needed. Allocates resources to maintain properties and assets. Ensures budget allocations are accurately distributed by site/branch and reflect organizational priorities.
- Leads development of an interim and longterm investment and maintenance plan to include overall facilities footprint key investment projects and approach to ongoing maintenance.
- Maintains a Work Order system to ensure timely and appropriate response to all maintenance needs. Establishes priorities and determines a timeframe for work completion.
- Scopes facilities projects and deploys staff or contractors as needed.
- Negotiates and manages all facilities service contracts. Ensures timely completion and satisfactory performance of all contracted work.
- Research new approaches to create more streamlined and economical facilityoperations implementing changes in collaboration with branch management.
- Manages security systems and procedures for all properties.
- Fleet:
- Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our Parks Conservancyowned fleet of 15 and 18 leased GSA vehicles while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Ensure routine maintenance schedules are adhered to.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols for drivers.
- Optimize the number of vehicles in the fleet for efficiency and cost savings.
- Supervision and Leadership:
- Leads trains and directs the efforts of the Facilities & Fleet staff and associated vendors or contractors.
- Manages a team of 24 fulltime staff. Ensures team members understand both daytoday responsibilities and the role of the department as it relates to the effective operations and strategic direction of the Parks Conservancy and the needs of agency partners.
- Ensures collaborative team culture encouraging open communication and creating a positive working environment.
- Promotes a culture of operational leadership and safety by ensuring staff are adequately trained participating in Parks Conservancy and partner agency safety forums and reporting investigating and translating accidents and near misses into opportunities for continued learning.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- 5 years of relevant professional experience (we are background agnostic and are excited by candidates with unique and different work histories).
- Advanced knowledge and experience in applying theories principles practices and techniques of maintenance management of buildings associated utilities grounds and other miscellaneous facilities.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of people inclusive of different backgrounds ethnicities genders sexualities ages and viewpoints.
- Knowledge and ability to prepare an annual financial plan cyclic and rehabilitation work programs and input to related management systems.
- Working knowledge of federal state and local building codes systems and safety practices including OSHA.
- Track record of completing facilitiesrelated work on time and within or below budget.
- High emotional intelligence and collaborative leadership skills including the ability to address conflict.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a diverse and interdisciplinary staff towards effective results and professional development.
- Exceptional communication skills. Speaks clearly and effectively; is thoughtful and persuasive; writes clearly and informatively; varies writing style to meet needs.
- Develops strategies to achieve organizational goals; understands organizations staffs strengths and weaknesses; identifies external issues and opportunities; adapts strategy to changing conditions. Understands financial implications of decisions; aligns work with strategic goals.
Compensation and Location
The Parks Conservancy provides its employees with a competitive salary that is benchmarked with other nonprofit organizations in the Bay Area. Benefits include a competitive suite of medical dental and vision plans up to 3 weeks paid vacation plus one week of personal days plus holiday 11 and sick days 12.
This position is fulltime and you must already be based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area. This position requires at least 2 days per week onsite (ideally 3 days) either in office (Fort Mason) or visiting our employees on location at our incredible park sites (for example Alcatraz Muir Woods and Crissy Field).
The hiring range for this position is an annual salary of $120000$125000 (Grade 22. The nal salary within this range will be determined based on relevant experience.

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- This position is located at the Parks Conservancys headquarters in Fort Mason San Francisco. Work is performed in an office setting; including a mix of telework and onsite.
- Work is primarily performed sitting and standing. Regularly sits or stands at a desk 68 hours per day
- Work requires frequent and regular travel to work locations across the San Francisco Bay Area including Alcatraz Muir Woods Golden Gate Bridge Lands End Crissy Field Presidio San Mateo and other outdoor worksites.
