Position Summary
Career Readiness Learning Objectives: Communication: The student worker will assist with classes and campus and work with children and young adults. The student worker will deliver the content of the museum using age appropriate methods for individuals and small groups. Teamwork: The student worker will function as a member of a team at the Childrens Museum. The student worker will collaborate with the full time staff to deliver programming and to keep the museum safe and clean. This is an offcampus workstudy position only eligible to students who have filed a FAFSA and have an unmet financial need. Student workers are considered employees of Gannon and are paid by the University. There are two positions available: Education Assistant and Museum Assistant . More info can be found at Student workers will be under the supervision of the Childrens Museum staff. 1 Education Assistant This position supports the education team in meeting museum goals through onsite education programs including and not limited to paid programming visitor engagements as well as mobile museum outreach experiences. Works collaboratively with the education team on all aspects of educational programming. Assists in the preparation and implementation of innovative classes and camp programming for children from ages birth to nine years old. Cultivates and facilitates exhibitintegrated lessons and presentations for both scheduled groups/tours. Develops and presents the handson valueadded programming to be conducted daily to general museum guests. Assists the Outreach Coordinator with Mobile Museum events and programs. Supports special events held at the museum. Provides museum assistance in areas of customer service operations point of sale etc. 2 Museum Assistant Museum assistants at the expERIEence Childrens Museum are the first line of customer service experience at the museum. The assistants will handle all aspects of museum work: welcoming guests answering phones attending to birthday parties cleaning and maintaining the physical plant of the museum and its exhibits. The assistants job is to support the ECMs mission by enriching the lives of children and their families through a positive experience when visiting the museum. Provides exemplary customer service in the welcoming cashing in/out and interacting with the guests of the museum. Provides guests with overviews of the museum exhibits and activities. Interacts with museum guests in a friendly and positive manner throughout the museum experience. Accurately handles all transactions through the POS system. Answers the phone and directs calls in a professional manner. Assists in maintaining the museum exhibits including but not limited to cleaning and disinfecting exhibit components Assists in the general janitorial duties in the museum as directed.
Physical Demands
Varies on the needs of the job site. Candidates should be prepared to stand for moderate periods of time with some bending and lifting as part of the museum working experience.
Required Qualifications
Candidates for this position must qualify for Federal Work Study to be eligible. When you apply to this job posting the Financial Aid Office will determine your eligibility. Candidates must provide their own transportation to/from the work site. Ability to pass the Penn State Police Criminal Record Child Abuse History and FBI fingerprint clearances. The student worker will not begin working until the museum staff confirms all clearences have been received.
Preferred Qualifications
This position will require vetting and approval by museum staff. Enjoys working with children and families.
