  • Excellent opportunity for a Coastal Scientist or Coastal Engineer to join the Water Floodplains and Coast in managing the coastal zone on the NSW South Coast.
  • Natural Resource Project Officer Coastal and Estuaries (Environment Officer Class 7
  • Temporary fulltime role to March 2026 35 hours per week) possible extension P/Time
  • Office is located in Wollongong regional location encouraged/Hybrid work supported
  • Salary relative to experience and ranges from $105924 to $117031 super

If you have a passion to apply your technical skills in way that makes a difference to the management of the coast and rivers this opportunity is for you. The Coasts and Estuaries role supports the delivery of the NSW Governments coastal management framework on the South Coast of NSW. You will be part of a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team that manage coastal hazards and enhance the health of estuaries and coastal ecosystems. You will work closely with councils agencies and industry experts on preparing and implementing Coastal Management Programs (CMPs) with local communities to meet the objectives of Coastal Management Act 2016 and Coastal Management Manual. The Coasts and Estuaries Officer will support the regional delivery of a huge variety of active projects from Wollongong to the Bega Valley funded through the NSW Coasts and Estuaries Grants Program in consultation with local communities across. This role is part of the Department of Climate Change Energy Environment and Water Conservation Programs Heritage and Regulation group (DCCEEWCPHR) Regional Delivery.

About You

The ideal applicant will be ready to apply their technical communication and project management skills to make a difference in the management of the coastal environment. You will scope and support delivery of complex technical projects on ground works and provide advice across a range of issues. You will value developing professional relationships and support councils working with their communities and agencies in preparing and implementing coastal management programs. You will support engagement processes with Aboriginal communities to respect and support cultural values in the coastal environment.

Expertise and qualifications in coastal engineering and coastal geomorphology will be highly regarded but not essential as your active participation as part a multidisciplinary team of experts will provide opportunities to develop and share your technical skills to often complex and challenging issues. Your technical expertise will be used to research and analyse data to prepare technical recommendations on coastal hazard and estuary health in the delivery of evidence based fit for purpose management strategies.
