Job Summary:

The Director Family Giving is a frontline fundraising professional responsible for the management of a portfolio of prospects comprised primarily of parents and families of current and former students and alumni with capacity and inclination to make major gifts to Ithaca College. Prospect management includes discovery qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship of donors. This position will create and oversee a philanthropicfocused Parent and Family Council and will coordinate parent giving programs across campus working closely with schools and units. The Director of Family Giving both travels and utilizes oncampus events to develop and strengthen prospect relationships with the goal of transitioning them into major gift portfolios. They will possess an understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing higher education as well as the issues and concerns relevant to the parents and families of current college students. The Director works collaboratively with other staff in the Division of Advancement as well as college administrators faculty and staff. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Philanthropy.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop plan implement and evaluate strategies to grow philanthropy from current and former family constituencies and alumni.
  2. Responsibilities include discovery qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship for portfolio of managed prospects. Portfolio will primarily focus on current and former parents & families and major gift prospects.
  3. In conjunction with the Associate Vice President establish prospect management goals for visits and solicitations.
  4. Solicit and close gifts at the major gift level. Responsibilities include development of strategy preparation of proposals and materials solicitation closing and stewardship including written documentation for accurate gift recording and use acknowledgements and reporting.
  5. Travel regularly and participate in oncampus events to develop and strengthen prospect relationships such as new student convocation commencement and Homecoming Weekend.
  6. Work with college partners including within the Division of Advancement academic leaders faculty and senior leadership to develop meaningful engagement opportunities for gift prospects. Volunteer Management
  7. Create a Parent and Family Giving Council. Plan and implement volunteer engagement stewardship and educational opportunities for Council members.
  8. Ensure each Council member is actively engaged in a conversation with the college about their philanthropic support volunteer interest and capacity.
  9. Assist in the recruitment training and management of volunteers for various opportunities (for example: peertopeer solicitation efforts). Work with volunteers on special initiatives.
  10. Develop and oversee parent giving initiatives. Donor Relationships
  11. Model a collaborative style to facilitate and guide creative donor relationship strategies.
  12. Work with Donor Relations to identify and confirm individuals families and foundations to highlight donors as appropriate; and to oversee preparation of proposals gift agreements endowment and stewardship reports for assigned prospects.
  13. Develop plan and participate in strategic donor engagement opportunities such as small events for targeted prospects and larger donor stewardship events. IC Division of Advancement
  14. Support the work of the Associate Vice President of Development and Vice President for Advancement.
  15. Develop and keep updated contact reports opportunities and solicitation efforts. Ensure the accuracy and timely entry of all information and records into the Blackbaud RENXT database.
  16. Exhibit a strong ability to maintain confidentiality and set pace for moves management.
  17. Develop and demonstrate multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff faculty students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
  18. Perform other duties as they arise and/or are assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and three years directly related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; a strong commitment to higher education; demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships including gift solicitation; experience working with volunteers and a proven track record of collaboration in a team environment; the ability to speak credibly about higher education and ICs mission and vision; ability to develop relationships with high net worth individuals in a broad range of professions; ability to travel extensively and attend college functions during and after normal business hours; deep personal integrity and strong work ethic are required. An understanding of major gifts and campaign funds are preferred.

This position is 37.5 hours per week 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Range:

$75000 $80000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
