About Community Health Centres (CHC):

CHCs offer clinic services referral services support groups therapy and ambulatory nutrition care and a full range of addiction and mental health services to those who are living with complex psychosocial and clinical needs who are vulnerable and underserved and who require a higher intensity of services to achieve and maintain functional stability. Each clinic is staffed with Integrated Care Teams (ICTs) to care for people who experience barriers accessing services have no primary care providers and are challenged by complex health concerns (including psychosocial physical mental health and addiction comorbidities). Each ICT provides care onsite and via outreach with nurses social workers counselloers peer specialists community liaison workers family physicians nurse practitioners and psychiatrists. ICTs are supported onsite by more specialized care providers: wound care clinicians palliative care nurses OTs dieticians and many other disciplines.

As a Clinical Support attendant you will:

  • Establish a supportive presence that promotes a variety of trauma informed interventions practices and clinical services that cultivate safety and respect within an multiuse/occupant community health centre and/or clinic setting.
  • Provide assistance to clients with acute chronic and palliative care needs and/or their caregivers by liaising with the clinician and community services and supporting the interdisciplinary team during the client care planning process.
  • Act as a member of the onshift response team for the sites fire safety and security functions and intervenes to fire safety and security related complaints and hazards including nonclinical emergencies and aggression and mitigate identified risks to the health care team.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Diploma in Community Social Service.
  • One 1 years recent related experience in a clinical and/or social services environment working with diverse population and marginalized groups or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Successful completion of an Intermediate First Aid Certificate and a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate required.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in Trauma Informed Practice Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented Care
  • Knowledge of Appreciative Inquiry.
  • Broad knowledge of mental health and substance use issues and treatment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Able to develop interventions and care plans that are strength based and client centered.
  • Demonstrated expertise in workplace violence prevention including personal safety techniques and team control technique.
  • Knowledge of community mental health and addictions social and health resources and client care planning.
  • Ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public and other staff to deal tactfully and effectively with coworkers public and staff from other agencies to maintain confidentiality and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy all health care workers working in publiclyfunded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
