The South African Sugar Association (SASA) is seeking a visionary National Market and Trade Policy Executive to drive initiatives that protect and grow the South African sugar market and promote the sustainability of the sugar industry. Based in Maydon Wharf Durban this leadership role involves overseeing economic research market analysis policy development and strategic decisionmaking to safeguard industry interests locally regionally and internationally.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Honours or Masters degree in Economics Business Administration Trade Policy or related fields.
- Experience:
- Proven leadership in trade policy market analysis or economic strategy ideally within the agricultural or FMCG sector.
- 58 years experience in a similar role within the Agricultural Industry
- Expertise in SACU SADC and international trade agreements.
- Strong financial and risk management experience.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical skills focused on market trends and policy impacts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Strategic and analytical thinker with a commitment to industry sustainability and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance to SASA Committees and Council to shape policies impacting the local and regional sugar market.
- Oversee the implementation of the Sugarcane Value Chain Master Plan.
- Analyse the economic impact of trade and regulatory policies on the industry.
- Lead strategic trade protection initiatives and engage with government to promote industry interests.
- Develop strategies to address illegal sugar trade within SACU.
- Manage the calculation and distribution of industry proceeds and RV price.
- Monitor market trends local demand and identify threats to SACU market stability.
- Develop rebate strategies to support market growth while maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Administer molasses revenue reporting and oversee research on pricing factors.
- Represent SASA in domestic and international trade forums including SACU SADC and the International Sugar Organisation.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to stakeholders to support decisionmaking.
- Lead and manage a highperforming team aligned with SASAs objectives.
- Support the implementation of the Sugarcane Value Chain Master Plan.
