Childrens Rights is seeking a committed and enthusiastic student to intern with our communications team andsupport our commitment to government accountability and social justice for children.
Childrens Rights is a national advocacy organization working to protect and advance the rights of children impacted by government systems. Using civil rights impact litigation policy expertise and public education we operate in over 20 states and at the federal level to drive systemic change and improve outcomes for thousands of children and families.
Every day children and families are harmed by Americas child welfare juvenile justice education immigration and healthcare systems. These systems disproportionately impact historically marginalized youth including children of color LGBTQ youth and those with mental health needs. Through strategic advocacy and legal action Childrens Rights holds governments accountable and works to disrupt and prevent these ongoing harms creating lasting change for children and their families.
Job Summary:
Are you passionate about digital impact and making a difference With support from a small dynamic team the Social Media Intern will gain handson experience in digital marketing advocacy and communications while working on a variety of issues that impact children. In your role you will assist the communications team in researching producing scheduling and analyzing content across Instagram LinkedIn Threads YouTube BlueSky Facebook and emerging platforms. You will also help drive a LinkedIn engagement project aimed at increasing awareness of Childrens Rights among key decisionmakers in corporate arts/culture/media legal advocacy and philanthropic spaces.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a strong writer working toward a degree in journalism marketing public relations communications human rights international relations social work or a related field. Experience with social media preferred. An interest in advocacy social justice and/or nonprofit communications is a plus. Candidates in their junior or senior year of college are preferred though all undergraduate candidates with relevant experience will be considered. Candidates must be available to volunteer three days and 2025 hours per week. Additionally applicants must be detailoriented and well organized with strong writing and critical thinking skills as well as excited to contribute to and observe all aspects of an advocacy nonprofit.
Start and end dates are flexible but a minimum commitment of eight 8 weeks is required. Internships at Childrens Rights are unpaid though we are happy to support interns in seeking outside funding and/or course credit from their schools.
Knowledge of childrens issues social services social justice civil rights racial justice LGBTQ/TGNC issues juvenile justice and/or other areas of our work is a plus. Applicants with prior personal involvement in the systems we fight to improve and/or with other diverse life experiences and perspectives are especially encouraged to apply. Physical and Travel Requirements:
Prolonged periods remaining stationary at a desk and working on a computer. No travel is required.
