As a Social Work Intern at the Healthy Brain Network you will participate in and contribute tonocost diagnostic evaluations conducted for the Healthy Brain Network (HBN) an exciting initiative aimed at collecting imaging genetic and phenotypic data from10000 childrenand adolescents.These comprehensivepsychological evaluations canprovidediagnosis and support IEP advocacy and include measures of cognition executive functioning academic achievementlanguageand social and emotional functioning.
This internship is an opportunity for the social work students to earn hours toward a masters degree in social work which hours are also eligible for social work licensure. The social work intern will be interfacing with children adolescents young adults and families. A multitude of assessments will be administered as part of HBN including collection of medical and psychiatric information and intake interviews.
Reporting to the Social Work Supervisor this is a parttime hybrid unpaid internship located at our Harlem location. #LIhybrid
Under supervision by a licensed social worker:
Conduct or participate in components of the diagnostic and/or clinical evaluation to include:
Conduct intake interviews with adult participants and parents
Help facilitate semistructured psychiatric interview (KSADS)
Help develop feedback sessions with adult participants and parents
Assist in the development of comprehensive biopsychosocial reports to include pertinent clinical history and background information acquired during the HBN evaluation
Based on the evaluation results help determine appropriate treatment recommendations and referrals
Participate and present in weekly case conferences and consult with multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists school psychologists clinical psychologistneuropsychologists social workers and trainees
Help build and maintain the comprehensive referral network
Participate in Didactics groups and weekly supervision
Must be enrolled in a social work masters program in good standing;
Availability for a minimum of 21 hours of clinical work per week ideally spread across 3 days
Flexible scheduling during the week to accommodate 1 hour of direct supervision as well as time for program training and didactics.
Understanding of DSMV diagnostic procedures a plus
Crisis management skills a plus
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with a wide range of individuals/groups
Strong writing skills
Upon acceptance and before starting the internship the social work intern must submit a statement from the interns school attesting that the intern is a student whose course of instruction leads to a degree diploma or certificate or who is completing residence requirements for a degree.
