About the role:
The Department of Thoracic Medicine at St Vincents Hospital seeks a Staff Specialist 0.3FTE. Duties will include ward rounds and supervision of junior medical staff running the Lung Tx/ ALD Outpatient Clinic Transplant oncall duties from timetotime as determined within in the Department and performance of bronchoscopic procedures as determined within the Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision of clinical services to patients designated as under your direct care to outpatients and to patients you are asked to consult in Lung Transplantation;

  • Provision of clinical services to patients as designated under your direct care to outpatients and to patients you are asked to consult in with Advanced lung disorders;

  • Provision of interventional and diagnostic respiratory services including bronchoscopy thoracic ultrasound and insertion of chest drains and complex pulmonary function tests;

  • Experience in the development of multidisciplinary outpatient services; familiarity with the leading better value care model would be desirable;

  • Lead and participate in the development of research and academia within the Department

  • Participate in teaching duties at specialty registrar junior medical officer and undergraduate levels;

  • Promotion of good patient care and the good reputation of the department and the hospital;

  • Participation in outofhours oncall Lung Transplant roster.

Internal applicants i.e. current employees of St Vincents Hospital or an entity of SVHA are required to apply via their Workday account.

Selection Criteria:
Possess or be eligible to possess specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); and possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists State Award.
Has worked as a Specialist in Lung Transplant and Thoracic Medicine for at least 12 months. Is prepared to work primarily in the subspeciality of Lung Transplantation as well as provide clinical services in Thoracic Medicine.
Sleep training and an interest in respiratory failure in lung transplant recipients would be an advantage.
A commitment to participate in a 1 in 6 oncall roster and direct clinical patient care in both Lung Transplantation and Thoracic Medicine.
Current interventional bronchology skill subset to include bronchoscopy transbronchial lung biopsy and balloon dilatation. Experience in other interventional procedures including Thoracic Ultrasound is also desirable.
A strong background in teaching of students and Registrars is highly desirable. RACP accreditation in Registrar supervision is an advantage.
Possessing or currently completing a higher degree.
