Department Summary

The Energy Studies in Buildings Laboratories (ESBL) and Institute for Health in the Built Environment (IHBE) seek to expand their interdisciplinary team that spans expertise in architectural design building performance energy efficiency building science and engineering building acoustics indoor microbiology and indoor air quality. ESBL and IHBE collaborate within the University of Oregon College of Design and School of Architecture and Environment. In 2018 ESBL the Biology and Built Environment Center and the Baker Lighting Laboratory launched the Institute for Health in the Built Environment a collaboration with multiple academic institutions centers and labs in collaboration with private industry philanthropic organizations and government agencies to reduce energy consumption of buildings and improve the health and wellbeing of building inhabitants.

Position Summary

Research Assistants will be working on research that involves one or more of the following areas: building air quality/circulation energy budgeting building/timber life cycle analysis structural composite analysis carbon accounting and acoustic reporting of mass timber assemblies. An ideal candidate should have experience in the timber industry with mass timber construction building and mass timber acoustics and/or human health as it relates to the built environment. Minimum Requirements

A bachelors degree in architecture/engineering or a closely related field.
Experience with concepts analytical techniques and measurement equipment of building systems and architectural design.
Experience with building science data analytics and statistical analysis.
Experience with building management and automation systems and building HVAC and lighting equipment.
Experience working as part of a group or team in a team atmosphere.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; attention to detail.
Organizational problemsolving project management and time management skills.
Selfstarter able to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Siemens Navigator and Insight building management systems.
Familiarity with EnergyPlus energy modeling software.
Experience with 3D modeling software such as Revit Rhinoceros and SketchUp.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
Familiarity with HVAC and lighting systems commissioning.
Experience with Excel Matlab R or other programs to automate data handling.
