Job Description
Chronicle Heritage is seeking a professionally qualified and experienced Senior Architectural Historian for a fulltime position in Utah Texas Wyoming Oregon New Mexico Arizona Florida Michigan Wisconsin and Virginia. This position will provide technical expertise and leadership to guide various projects through the environmental and historic preservation compliance processes.This position will also include both project and staff management.
Hire Type:Full Time (hourly)
Schedule:40 hours overtime when necessary based on project needs
Location: Utah Texas Wyoming Oregon New Mexico Arizona Florida Michigan Wisconsin and Virginia
Job Duties
  • Work with our team of cultural resource professionals to plan organize and manage historic resource surveys and other investigative work related to the identification evaluation and assessment of effects to historic properties
  • Supervise project architectural historians and principal investigators
  • Review technical reports and associated documentation and perform final QA/QC before client submittal
  • Develop proposals and cost estimates and provide support to clients during the scoping phases of projects
  • Regularly communicate with clients to keep them informed of project progress project schedule review and ensure all project needs are being addressed in a timely manner and within budget
  • Coordinate project review with state and federal agencies including the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)
Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree in historic preservation or architectural history or a closely related field such as history or public history
  • Meet of exceeds the SOI Standards for Architectural History 36 CFR Part 61
  • 5 years of experience conducting historical research completing historic resource surveys and evaluating the historic and architectural significance of properties under the National Register of Historic Places criteria and preparing effects assessments
  • Proficient understanding of state and federal historic preservation laws and regulations particularly Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Section 4(f) of the U.S. Department of Transportation Act and other applicable state and municipal laws
  • Ability to prepare technical and cost proposals
  • Demonstrated project management experience
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with DOTs on cultural resource projects
  • Exceptional archival research technical writing and communication skills
  • Experience preparing architectural drawings and HABS/HAER/HALS documentation
  • Experience facilitating consulting party coordination and preparing MOAs
  • Experience working with stakeholders to develop creative preservation solutions to prepare preservation planning documents tools and resources
  • Contract management experience
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
Physical And Mental Requirements And Work Environment
  • Vision is required to observe environmental phenomena and record and translate observations into text (either keyboard entry on a computer or dictation and audio translation of recording to Standard English scientific text).
  • Mental requirements include ability to organize ones own work or that of crew members; ability to recognize and observe scientific data and analyze data as well as ability to perform calculations. Must also be able to observe social and professional interactions and respond appropriately.
  • Some work is performed primarily in an indoor environment and requires sustained sitting and use of fingers hands and arms to operate a computer and perform keyboard entry of data or document preparation (or equivalent with accommodation). Must also be able to operation standard office equipment (phone copy machine FAX machine etc.
