About this Job
This is a full time position located at theCapitol Annex Building in Baton Rouge LA. This position will be working in theOffice of Cultural Development in the Division of Historic Preservation. Historic Preservation:Historic buildings and structures play a special role in creating the distinctive character of each and every community. Their essential legacy of cultural educational recreational aesthetic social and environmental benefits must be preserved and/or documented for present and future generations. The Louisiana Division of Historic Preservations professionally trained staff work in the publics interest to recognize revitalize rehabilitate and record the historic built environment in our state through the important programs and technical assistance offered. Minimum Qualifications
A bachelors degree in architecture architectural history a humanities field historic preservation cultural resource management or museum studies.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
The preferred candidate must meet the Secretary of the Interiors Qualification Standards and have experience administering the Section 106 Review process for the built environment. Most importantly the ideal candidate will be proficient in GIS (working with maps and layers and creating and sharing map content).- Serves as the initial point of contact for the Section 106 review process (36 CFR 800) in the Division of Historic Preservation (DHP).
- Works with federal agencies or their representatives who may submit requests for federal licenses permits or funding to assess impacts.
- May conduct site visits where necessary to assess the condition of historic properties.
- Participates in consultation meetings with federal agencies and project representatives to help advance the Section 106 review process. Provides comments during the Section 106 consultation process which may include a variety of public and private parties to develop written agreement documents in a federal agency or their representative makes an adverse effect determination.
- Updates DHP website regarding program requirements and guidelines.
- Works directly with Archaeology staff to ensure all reviews are complete and response letters are accurate. Will serve as a back-up for archaeology staff when needed to manage the ER Tracking Database. Assists Archaeology with updates to Field Standards and Report Standards.
- Seeks out training annually on the Section 106 review process to build and maintain knowledge.
- Serves the DHP comprehensive statewide survey program manager by entering data into and managing the Louisiana Cultural Resources Map database.
- Issues unique resource ID numbers via the DHP database spreadsheets received from requesters before Louisiana Historic Resource Inventory (LHRI) forms may be added to the Map via GIS.
- Uses GIS to map points in the database and also corrects miss-plotted points where identified. Updates existing maps and creates new maps for all existing DHP programs and the Cultural District program.
- Assists colleagues with surveys associated with other programs within DHP/OCD when requested.
- Updates DHP website regarding photo requirements LHRI form requirements and survey guidelines.
- When possible schedule training(s) annually on the ArcGIS or applicable to build or maintain knowledge.
- Maintains an up-to-date internal procedural guide for the LHRI survey process and GIS mapping for DHP.
- When requested assists the Director of HP with requests for Certifications of Appropriateness for state-owned buildings in Baton Rouge per state law (R.S. 25:785).
- Provides accurate and timely responses for special activities and reports including LaPAS and NCSHPO Preservation Week.
- Performs other related duties and assignment as requested by Director of HP Deputy Assistant Secretary of OCD Assistant Secretary of OCD and Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

Appointment Type: This is a probational appointment; current classified permanent State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if offered the position.
