Position Overview:
The School of Music seeks students as Graduate Assistants. Appointments are contingent upon adequate funding.
Choral Manager
Jazz Manager
Band (Wind Orchestra) Manager
Marching Band 2 GAs
Opera Workshop (Sp. 2026 Only)
Music Librarian (Orchestra Band Choral)
The department reserves the right to choose the most qualified candidate for each position and to assign Graduate Assistants to the courses or duties that are appropriate for the department program and curriculum in any given semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes appointments may vary and no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made.
Anticipated Appointment Dates: This position is opened until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available you will be notified.
Fall 2025: August 18 2025 December 22 2025;
Spring 2026: January 15 2026 May 22 2026
Hours/Units per week:Students can work up to 20hours per week;
1unit is equivalent to 2.66 hrs per week 40hrs x 1unit/15unit)
No more than 6 units (or not to exceed 7.50 total WTUs in one semester which equates to 20hours per week)
Job Dutiesmay include the following but will be dependent upon the specific area to which the GA will be assigned as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty supervisor.
Provide professional nonteaching assistance to faculty members
Provide research assistance and practical experience in fields related to their advanced study
May involve supervising students in a classroom workshop or laboratory (final responsibility is vested in a member of the faculty);
Provide training students in the use of equipment or other resources;
Assist faculty with research and preparation of course materials
Participate in evaluation of students work;
Tutoring students
Qualifications:
Minimum GPA 3.0;Applicants with a 3.5 or higher are preferred
International students must have a TOEFL score of 600 or better
Must enroll in at least 6 units (three of which must be graduate units) for the semester or in two courses applicable to program of study
Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty staff and students from diverse ethnic cultural and socioeconomic background
For those who have previously held a TA position at Fresno State peer and student evaluations will be reviewed and considered as part of the selection process.
Must be a student fully admitted in the M.A. in Music and in good academic standing.

Evaluations: GAs may be evaluated per CBA Unit 11 Article 8
Salary: Each department has different salary scales. Please check with your department for your Base Salary. The monthly salary is calculated based on the Weighted Teaching Units assigned.
Salary Schedule: The CSU salary schedule can be found here (Class Code 2355 for Graduate Assistants).
Assignments: Assignments are made by the Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the teaching associate.
The Graduate Assistant is a student position for those actively enrolled in a graduate program at Fresno are limited to 20hours of parttime work on campus.
