FLSA Status: Exempt Fulltime

Schedule: 8:30am5pm MF nights and weekends as needed


Summary: The Director of Family Evangelization and Faith Formation is the subject matter expert of the Churchs doctrine about the vocation of Marriage and Family for the Archdiocese of San Antonio. The Director provides leadership vision and content for providing foundational support to parishes and Catholic organizations in the topic areas that involve marriage family life and faith formation. This role incorporates the Churchs doctrine and teaching for Evangelization and forming one in the faith beyond catechesis in order to foster growth in forming leaders in parishes and schools. The Director will provide opportunities for formation and enrichment of catechetical leaders catechists and others as assigned. The Director of Family Evangelization and Faith Formation also supervises the Associate Director of Family Evangelization & Faith Formation.

The fundamental basis of this role is an integration of the New Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship in a pastoral de conjunto to serve the multicultural pastoral needs of children youth young adults adults (as couples and men and women as individuals) and seniors.

Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

  • Stay up to date on communication from the Church Magisterium and different coordinating bodies of the college of bishops (USCCB TCC etc.
  • Be informed of any important gathering or activity internal or external to the Catholic Church in National Regional & Local matters pertaining to the role
  • Review resources and recommend national and/or regional best practices for parish programs that support marriage preparation marriage enrichment faith formation evangelization and catechesis
  • Discover and create innovative initiatives and trends for the New Evangelization involving children marriage families and seniors
  • Provide strategic vision and innovative content to further the Churchs mission and ministry toward marriage and family life that is based on the priorities of the Archdiocese and teachings of the Magisterium. Utilize and form specific content in support of the USCCB campaigns and priorities.
  • Uphold and create archdiocesan policies pertaining to marriage family life parish religious education for children RCIA and other matters pertaining to the role
  • Collaborate with the Director for Youth and Young Adults in upholding and creating archdiocesan policies for Sacraments of Initiation and other matters pertaining to the role
  • Implement a crossintegrated approach to Marriage Preparation Marriage Enrichment Evangelization Catechesis and RCIA with relevant content and collaboration of the pastoral directors
  • Collaborate with community organizations to further support for single parents (emphasis on single mothers and their children) and those who are separated divorced grieving or those with samesex attraction
  • Create and maintain relationships with archdiocesan leaders in formation and/or support of a Marriage & Family Committee 34 members)
  • Meets on a regular basis with the Associate Director of Family Evangelization & Faith Formation to provide support encouragement training accountability and direction for the area of Family Evangelization & Faith Formation.
  • Works with Associate Director of Family Evangelization & Faith Formation to strengthen the initiatives and ministry of the area and to execute on ministry plans.
  • Serve as a resource and guide for pastors and parish ministers for specific parish needs or concerns related to faith formation family life and sacramental preparation.
  • Develop and implement best practices in specialized area.
  • Develop and maintain budget for specialized area.
  • Collaborate with the Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry & Service to form catechesis catechetical leaders and marriage and family life ministers.
  • Serve as the lead director for events connected to family ministry.
  • Develop and maintain national regional & local partnerships and relationships with Lay Ecclesial Movements internal and external Church organizations
  • Work closely with the Department Head of the Office of Communications to ensure information is posted regularly to keep informed of Marriage and Family issues critical to the Church.
  • Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and wellbeing of self others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information services rendered to clients donors names and gifts internal and external investigations or results of any investigations and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Masters Degree in Theology preferable in matters of Marriage and Family Life; and at least three 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. This position also requires 2 years of experience in supervision and/or management.

Experience:

  • A thorough working knowledge of the Catechism of the Catholic Church the Directory of Catechesis and current developments in the Churchs theology of the vocation of the laity marriage and family life papal and Episcopal documents and Canon Law.
  • Must be a Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.

License and Credentials:

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bilingual Spanish and English speaking and writing skills are required.
  • Excellence in organizational management setting and achieving goals and objectives and managing a budget.
  • Past success working with committees and the ability to cultivate existing committee member relationships.
  • Strong public relations skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders that include parishes groups other churches as well as within and beyond the Pastoral Center.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills including: professional tact and courtesy and ability to express ideas clearly creatively and logically both orally and in writing.
  • Passion idealism integrity positive attitude missiondriven and selfdirected.
  • Thorough proficiency of MS Office (Word Outlook Access Excel Power Point and Publisher) necessary. Other publishing programs preferred.
  • Well balanced combination of recognizing process and procedure and creating and communicating new initiatives.
  • Keen sense of missionary spirit and missionary zeal.
  • Must be detail oriented organized selfmotivated work well independently and on a team;
  • Must have good written and verbal skills;
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
