As a Research Assistant in Prof Lachlan Coins group at the Doherty Institute youll contribute to cuttingedge research on bacterial drug resistance using genomic and transcriptomic approaches. Youll gain invaluable experience in longread RNA sequencing and pathogen detection while working collaboratively in a valuesdriven environment that fosters innovation and excellence in biomedical research.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct Innovative Research: Contribute to projects on longread sequencing and antibiotic resistance in bacterial pathogens planning and executing experiments to meet project timelines.
  • Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with supervisors and team members assist in manuscript preparation and participate actively in lab meetings and seminars.
  • Maintain Research Standards: Keep accurate experimental records adhere to good laboratory practices and contribute to routine safety reviews.
  • Support Team Development: Supervise junior staff assist colleagues with experiments and contribute to the departments research output.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a dedicated researcher with a strong background in microbiology or molecular biology possessing excellent organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.

You may also:

  • Hold a BSc (Honours) or Masters degree in Biochemistry Cell Biology Microbiology or a related field.
  • Have experience with aseptic technique microbial culture DNA/RNA extraction and PCR.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail in recording and analysing research data.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Have experience working with nanopore sequence data (desirable).
  • Have experience analysing genomic/transcriptomic sequence data (desirable).
