Job Description

About ACU

ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. All applicants must be professing Christians and willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of Abilene Christian University while employed by the university.

Title of PositionDirector of Football Strength & ConditioningPosting LocationAbilene TexasDepartmentAthleticsEmployee ClassExempt Fulltime StaffBasic ResponsibilitiesA. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the weight room for football program
B. Maintain a safe and functional weight room.
C. Organize develop and implement offseason and inseason training programs for studentathletes.
D. Assist with special events concerning Elmer Gray Track Stadium or Powell Fitness Center
E. Assist in studentathletes holistic development.Essential Duties

A. Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the weight room for football program
1. Adheres to all ACU Western Athletic Conference and NCAA policies procedures and bylaws pertaining to studentathletes prospects recruiting etc.
2. Maintain excellent accounting records with fiscally sound budget practices.
3. Assist with scheduling responsibilities to ensure all sports and studentathletes have reasonable and fair access.
4. Regularly meet with coaches and support staff to best support studentathletes.
5. Ensure weight room guests are in compliance with NCAA regulations.

B. Maintain a safe and functional weight room.
1. Responsible for daily equipment inspections monitoring wear and tear.
2. Implementation of maintenance schedule for equipment.
3. Knowledge of upgrade requirements and equipment purchasing.
4. Keep abreast of everchanging information concerning strength training equipment.
5. Provide a safe environment conducive for studentathlete physical development.

C. Organize develop and implement offseason and inseason training programs for specified sports.
1. Knowledge of best practice as well as staying abreast of current research within the field of strength and conditioning.
2. Coordinate training times for specified sports with special consideration and priority given to sports in season.
3. Develop individual training schedules for studentathletes.
4. Modify workouts in coordination with sports medicine staff for studentathletes with injuries ailments and/or other limitations.
5. Be willing and able to teach athletes proper techniques in weightlifting speed and agility training that corresponds to his or her sport.
6. Be willing and able to teach athletes of all ability levels as it pertains to strength and conditioning and be flexible with implementation of different techniques and movements that apply to the athletes current level of preparedness.

D. Assist with special events in relation to Powell Fitness Center.
1. Familiarity with facilities and appropriate protocols
2. Have flexible and helpful attitude to coaches students camp directors etc.
3. Present a positive image of the department and university to the public when using these facilities for special events.

E. Assist in holistic studentathlete development for specified sports.
1. Responsible for studentathlete strength and conditioning development and teaching and implementing programs to studentathletes.
2. Assist in the spiritual personal and academic development for studentathletes.

Professional Development Requirements

3. Knowledge of strength conditioning and speed development

B. Training Modules Required
1. Leadership and management workshops
2. Strength clinics/seminars
3. Technology training to meet university requirements.

Qualifications

Professional

1. Bachelors Degree / Masters preferred
2. First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
3. Hold certification from either (CSCCa) as a Strength and Conditioning Certified Coach (SCCC) and / or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
4. Minimum of 5 years experience in coaching related to strength conditioning and speed development.
5. Leadership and management experience
6. Ethics and integrity to work within rules of NCAA and the United Athletic Conference
