About the role
The Administrative Practice Manager Criminal will work closely with the Managing Criminal Lawyer Southern Region to ensure the quality output of the administration staff in the criminal team including coordinating training and strategies to improve and maintain efficiency in file processing and management of all administrative processes. The work requires a high level of motivation energy and a commitment to professional excellence.
What youll be doing
- Provide high quality administrative and secretarial support to the Managing Criminal Lawyer Southern Region and legal staff of the Criminal Law Section.
- Provide supervision and guidance to administrative staff in the Alice Springs Criminal Law Section including responsibility for assigning of staff workloads leave approvals adhoc rostering or service changes and staff training and development.
- In consultation with the Managing Criminal Lawyer Southern Region develop and implement administrative support procedures in the Criminal Law Section with particular emphasis on maintaining the Client Management System developing and refining strategies to improve outputs and providing a high quality of service to NAAJA clients.
- Liaise with IT and HR departments to assist with the onboarding and offboarding of staff in the Criminal Law Section Alice Springs including seating arrangements devices and other access.
- Arrange legal staff travel itinerary and accommodation arrangements in conjunction with the finance section the Senior Client Services Officer and external contractors as required including approval of purchase orders.
- Oversee the ongoing maintenance of an internal register of all conflict referrals within the Criminal Law Section Alice Springs office.

- Highly effective administrative and organisational skills in an office environment including experience with: financial procedures and delegations general administrative functions and strong computer literacy with experience of Microsoft Office programs database and email.
- A commitment to social justice and a general understanding of the legal system in the Northern Territory and how it relates to Aboriginal people as well as an ability to understand legal concepts and apply them to practice.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the services offered by NAAJA and other government community based and nongovernment organisations that may be accessed by clients of NAAJA.
Requirements
- Current drivers licence
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory working with children clearance (Ochre Card) upon commencement
- Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice
