Job Summary:
The Resident Assistant (RA) position is an opportunity to affect the Columbia College community by influencing the lives of the students living in the residence halls. This is a fulltime yearlong commitment that pushes students to become better leaders and role models for those living in their community. As an RA you will be given the responsibility of cultivating a community on your floor and in your building as well as assisting students from personal to academic needs. The RA is a member of the Department of Residential Life team and reports directly to hall leadership.
Essential Functions:
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia Colleges vision mission and values and contributes to the development of the Residential LifeDepartment.
  • The student must demonstrate enthusiasm punctuality reliability and excellent organizational and communication skills; have the ability to troubleshoot and problemsolve.
  • Create and maintain a friendly respectful and accepting atmosphere that stimulates academic and personal growth for everyone in the community.
  • Maintain contact with each resident in order to promote personal wellbeing and facilitate community development.
  • Serve as a primary resource for residents and should be familiar with the services and opportunities provided by Residential Life Student Affairs and other college departments and offices.
  • Plan publicize implement and evaluate educational and social programs for residents.
  • Facilitate roommate agreements at the beginning of each semester and will facilitate conversations when roommate conflict arises.
  • Be responsible for abiding by upholding and reinforcing all residence hall and college policies.
  • Respond to emergency and nonemergency situations and contact the appropriate staff for assistance as necessary and as directed.
  • Participate in a rotational duty schedule which will require that they serve onduty for multiple nights a month (including weekends).
  • Assist in providing duty coverage during academic breaks and holidays when the college is closed.
  • Perform opening and closing inspections and health and safety inspections of rooms and apartments in their assigned area which includes completing all necessary paperwork and follow up in a timely manner.
  • Complete all necessary written reports properly and on time including but not limited to: weekly reports incident reports program proposals/summaries duty logs and all other forms as assigned by hall leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Live in the residence hall assignment provided by the Department of Residential Life for the duration of their appointment
  • Want to positively impact and encourage student success
  • Be able to perform job duties including returning to campus 7 to 9 days prior to the start of the fall semester
  • Be enrolled full time on the traditional campus in Columbia Missouri
  • Ability to fluently read write and understand the English language
  • Professional communication skills both oral and written
Required Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
  • Ability to fluently read write and understand the English language.
  • Proficiency with the following but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technologyrelated software and equipment including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal customer service and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:

Work Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is rarely exposed to outside weather conditions; however possible exposure to hazards and physical risks to personal safety may occur while operating certain equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild.
