Senior Instrumentation Engineer Cedar Rapids IA Your Role at BSI The Instrumentation Engineer will be a key player and resource on our ICA team. The ideal candidate will have experience as a lead engineer and is comfortable in front of clients and project teams alike. Responsibilities and Scope - Develops and writes discipline specific proposals
- Gathers field data and develops and supervises the use of design criteria document(s) to meet the project objectives
- Ensures quality and technical accuracy of project deliverables
- Follows the BSI Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards
- Masters the application of all the necessary calculations and design effort to prepare deliverables
- Ensures disciplines design is accurate and coordinated within the 2D drawings and/or 3D model and/or site scans
- Delegates work and supervises Engineers and Designers on a project
- Establishes and manages disciplines engineering schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
- Estimates plans and communicates staff requirements for assigned projects
- Knowledgeable of the scope of the project with the ability to identify change orders and prepare the necessary paperwork for approval. Gives clear direction to project teams.
- Gives guidance and checks the selection and specification of field instrumentation and control valves and control system hardware
- Gives guidance and checks the mechanical and electrical installation details for instrumentation and controls including code specific requirements hardware selection of bus technologies and the cabling and wiring methods for instrumentation and control panels
- Provides instrumentation input to P&IDs including control schemes
- Participates in construction support startup and commissioning efforts when required
- Identifies individual training needs and goals receives training from others and may attend outside seminars and mentors others
- As a primary point of contact for Instrumentation interfaces with other design discipline counterparts project management and clients.
- Participates in interactive planning sessions to ensure scope schedule costs and quality are aligned to project objectives and participates in multidiscipline squad checks of deliverables before issuance
Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
- 7 years of industry experience
- Experience with InTools (Smart Plant P&ID) preferred not required
- Ability to read & walk down P&IDs
- Ability to draw process flow map
- Knowledge of various instruments and ways to measure
- Knowledgeable in PLC and DCS design and hardware
- Experience with chemical processing facilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Access Data Entry and Reporting
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel
- Possess a thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code and hazardous area classification requirements is a plus
- Experience communicating and interacting with clients such as facilitating meetings
- Proficient written and oral communication skills
- Proficient presentation and decisionmaking skills
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
- Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills
Reporting Structure - The new Instrumentation Engineer will report to Mike Mount Director of Instrumentation Controls and Automation. Mike holds an associate degree from Cincinnati State and a bachelors degree from Miami University in ElectroMechanical Engineering Technology. With over 12 years of engineering consulting experience spanning industries such as pharmaceuticals oil and gas specialty chemicals and food and consumer products Mike brings a wealth of expertise to every project. His 10 years as a maintenance technician and manager provide him with a handson understanding of the challenges faced during construction and operation allowing him to lead with empathy build strong client relationships and deliver impactful results for both his team and clients.
