Under general direction the purpose of the position is to perform highly professional accounting work and provide executive level administrative support and direction involving the planning coordination and implementation of work in the Finance Department. Employees in this job classification perform in an assistant to executive capacity and are responsible for assisting the Finance Director with highlytechnical governmental accounting reporting budgeting and administration. Position is accountable for ensuring all work is performed according to generally accepted accounting principles established procedures departmental guidelines laws and regulatory requirements applicable to the work. Work involves preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and directing the annual external audit. Employee works with a high degree of independence and initiative and confers with Finance Director on matters involving unusual administrative fiscal and other issues. Position is primarily focused on managing coaching and developing other people. Reports to the Finance Director.
Hiring Salary Range: $110187 to $138235 (Annual)

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience which would provide required knowledge skills and abilities are qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting Finance or related field supplemented by a minimum of five 5 years progressively responsible accounting experience preferably with a similar government agency and preferably including at least one 1 to two 2 years experience within a lead/ supervisory capacity; CPA Certification Masters Degree and/or Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) designation preferred; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
The qualified candidate must demonstrate significant experience with municipal government budgeting regulations and procedures thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting budgeting financial reporting internal control procedures and management principles as applied to municipal government. The qualified candidate must also possess the ability to multitask with the ability to prioritize tasks; the ability to plan organize and direct the work of subordinate employees in their daily workload; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff municipal officials and the general public; the ability to create and present complex financial studies statements and reports; the ability to analyze and evaluate complex financial systems; and the ability to communicate ideas effectively.
