The Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a remote fulltime Systems & Technology Librarian at the Assistant Librarian rank to begin Summer 2025. This is a nontenure track professional faculty position with an initial appointment of 3 years and renewable for up to five years at a time as qualified by Texas A&M University System Policy 12.07. TAMIU is a growing university of over 8000 students located in Laredo Texas a vibrant bilingual and bicultural city with a population of about 250000. For more information visit www.tamiu.
Primary duties will include:
- Participating in the design testing deployment maintenance troubleshooting administration and evaluation of multiple essential discovery delivery and inventory systems in the Librarys portfolio including OCLC Worldshare Management System (WMS) OpenAthens the Springshare LibApps suite and Application Program Interfaces (APIs) from Library vendors;
- Researching evaluating recommending testing and implementing new technologies in collaboration with librarians and library staff;
- Providing training and support for the Library on the configuration of library systems and services through troubleshooting data analytics and system enhancements;
- Serving as lead contact with library systems vendors and maintaining excellent vendor relations for troubleshooting functionality and system upgrades and assessment of new projects;
- Developing strategies for collaboration program planning and support for interdisciplinary digital projects and initiatives;
- Maintaining and updating OpenAthens to ensure offcampus access to Library systems and reports;
- Maintaining knowledge of and engaging in continuous professional development to keep up with trends in library systems emerging technologies digital tools and software solutions;
- Serving as a liaison to and collaborating with the Office of Information Technology and other campus technology partners and stakeholders;
- Maintaining and troubleshooting the librarys website;
- Participating in special projects and serving on committees relating to the library the University and consortia;
- Participating in scholarly activities and professional service for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and technologies in service to the campus and Library missions;
- Serving on departmental university and professional committees;
- Other duties as assigned
This position is remote with two requirements for campus presence including 1 participation in one commencement ceremony per year and 2 presence oncampus for the workweek before Fall semester classes start to attend new faculty orientation faculty mixers the Division of Academic Affairs Faculty/Staff Assembly and the Library Fall faculty meeting. The expected normal work week is 8am through 5pm Central time Monday through Friday.
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
- An earned Masters degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an American Library Association (ALA)accredited institution. Candidates nearing degree completion will also be considered but must have earned the Masters degree before appointment.
- One year experience with configuration administration and backend management of ILS systems such as Alma/Primo VE or library management systems such as OCLC WMS;
- Demonstrated working knowledge of information technology principles processes systems and standards including operating systems systems security wireless networking digital initiatives and emerging web technologies.
- Demonstrated potential for advancement in rank.
Preferred Qualifications:
We strongly encourage candidates who have:
- a strong desire to serve firstgeneration students;
- two years experience with configuration administration and backend management of ILS systems such as Alma/Primo VE or library management systems such as OCLC WMS;
- experience leading systems projects or implementing new technologies preferably in an academic library environment;
- experience with authentication processes using Shibboleth SAML or OpenAthens;
- knowledge of basic programming concepts and languages scripting environments coding systems and/or notation formats such as Python R Java PHP JavaScript SQL HTML CSS JSON XSL and XML;
- demonstrated understanding of AI and LLMs in a higher education context;
- demonstrated experience with data visualization and data cleaning.
