Job Description

Job Summary:

Under general supervision incumbents in the Student Services Professional II classification perform moderately complex professional student service work in that assignments typically require the application of both knowledge and judgment in using the principles techniques standards guides and professional skills characteristic of a particular student service program or activity. This is the first level to require: planning; both interviewing and counseling techniques; judgment to recommend solutions to problems and changes in program procedures; and acting as spokesperson within the area of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

  • Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A masters degree in a jobrelated field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a fouryear college or university in one of the behavioral sciences public or business administration or a jobrelated field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a yearforyear basis.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the practices procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
  • General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing longrange program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect compile analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural multisexed and multiaged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty CSU administrators student organizations private and public agencies and others in committee work and student advising and community contacts; and rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications regarding other program or service areas Services Office.

Compensation:

Classification: Student Service Professional II

Compensation: The salary range for this classification is $ 5083.00 to $ 7228.00/month.

The hourly range for this classification is $29.32 to $41.70.

Position Information:

Work status: Fulltime Parttime Temporary Hourly OnCall Intermittent Exempt positions.

Schedule: To be arranged by hiring department.

* A pool of qualified candidates will be established for current and future vacancies at the San Bernardino or Palm Desert Campus. Qualified applicants will be kept active from January 1 2025 through December 31 2025.

This position is a designated position in the California State Universitys Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

As of January 1 2022 the CSU OutofState Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSUrelated work outside the state of California.

Conditions of Employment

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Drivers License Check

Possession of a valid Drivers License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid drivers license and reflects driving record.

Mandated Reporter

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Campus Security Authority

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
