Job Title: Swim Instructor FLSA Status: Part Time Reports to: Aquatic Director Revision Date: 1/8/19 POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for teaching participants skills to enhance their swimming abilities following the YMCA of the USA Swim Lesson program while ensuring the safety of students at all times. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Teach aquatic and safety skills according to level being taught.
- Follow prepared lesson plans and have equipment to be used during class prepared before the start of class. Incorporate YMCA Character Development values into each lesson.
- Maintain class attendance and student skill accomplishment records.
- Generate completed midsession reports for each student and certificates of achievement for students who are ready to progress to the next level.
- Keep Aquatic area clean and decks free from clutter.
- Recognize potential hazards communicate and eliminate hazards relative to program and program areas.
- Assist lifeguards during emergency situations.
- Adhere to policies and responsibilities in the Aquatic Staff Manual
- Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures including those related to medical and disciplinary situations child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Maintain positive relations with patrons and other staff. Model relationshipbuilding skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS: - Minimum 16 Years of age.
- Must be energetic creative enthusiastic and work well with children. Be skilled at and understand the importance of building relationships with people; members staff volunteers donors community leaders.
- Ability to communicate and teach swimming skills to students in an effective manner
- Current YMCA Swim Instructor or Red Cross WSI Certification CPR for Professional Rescuer First Aid Oxygen Administration.
- New Staff Orientation Child Abuse Prevention Blood Borne Pathogens Sexual Harassment and Y Leader training within 30 days of hire date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to carry out all requirements of a YMCA certified Swim Instructor.
