The School of Accounting Lundquist College of Business University of Oregon is seeking a career faculty member at the rank of Instructor Senior Instructor I Senior Instructor II or Professor of Practice to teach accounting courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Employment may begin as early as spring term (March 2025 or no later than September 16 2025. This is a 9month instructional contract. Summer opportunities may be available.
The School of Accounting (SOA) is one of five academic units (finance marketing management and operations and business analysis being the other four) that make up the Lundquist College of Business (Lundquist) which is one of nine colleges and schools within the University of Oregon (UO).
The mission of the SOA is threefold: to focus on highquality education by providing excellent undergraduate masters and doctoral programs; to advance scholarship through the production of basic research published in highquality academic journals; and to make an important impact on the accounting and business communities in Oregon and the West Coast.
Engagement with members of the accounting profession shapes our school. Under our mission we work to engage with accounting professionals regularly which often translates to updates in our curriculum and programming. Through our advisory board the Accounting Circle and memberships in professional organizations such as the Oregon Society of CPAs our faculty have frequent interactions with outside constituents working in the accounting profession which provide opportunities for revisions to courses to prepare our students better. Responsibilities for this position(s) include:
1. This position will teach up to eight 8 quarter courses at the graduate and/or undergraduate level. Courses may be related to financial accounting managerial accounting auditing tax or data analytics. Course load may be adjusted based on additional scholarship and/or other duties assigned by the department head and approved by the Senior Associate Dean.
2. Service expectations: .20 FTE activities could include departmental college or university committees; responsibilities in recognized professional organizations; service as a club adviser.
3. Research scholarship and creative activity: although NTTF faculty have no obligation for research or scholarship a commitment to fieldbased research in finance is highly desirable.
4. Professional development related to teaching and service: attending professional development conferences and staying current in the field.
5. Undergraduate and graduate advising.
6. Student contact and communication: office hours and advising students on group projects.
To qualify for the rank of Instructor:
Masters degree in Business Accounting or Finance.
Ability to teach accounting or data analytics courses as demonstrated by prior teaching or work experience.
To qualify for the rank of Senior Instructor I:
Masters degree in Business Accounting or Finance.
Ability to teach accounting or data analytics courses as demonstrated by prior teaching or work experience.
Six years of teaching courses related to business post receipt of degree.
To qualify for the rank of Senior Instructor II:
Masters degree in Business Accounting or Finance.
Ability to teach accounting or data analytics courses as demonstrated by prior teaching or work experience.
Twelve years of teaching courses related to business post receipt of degree.
*Note: Additional teaching experience does not guarantee appointment at to a senior rank.
To qualify for a Professor of Practice candidates must also demonstrate they:
have a substantial basis of experience equal to a tenured professor (normally a minimum of 12 years) and a national/international reputation for excellence reflected in a record of significant accomplishments;
have a profile of accumulated professional accomplishments fully congruent with the rank of professor;
have a rich and extensive background in a field and discipline relevant to the school college or unit of appointment at the University of Oregon; and
can serve as a liaison between the professional field and the University of Oregon.
Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills are required.
Ability to work effectively with students faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated interest experience and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.
Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level.
PhD in Accounting.
Experience in managing a program serving academic or business practitioners in accounting and/or finance.
