  • Employment Type: Full Time 35 hours per week Fixed Term 12month contract
  • Remuneration: Level 5 starting at $85717 plus 17 superannuation

Why your role matters

The Research Assistant provides technical and research assistance to the UNSW Child Neurology research team and will be responsible for designing and conducting research experiments writing weekly/monthly report attending the monthly meeting with the industry to report project progress. This position will be supporting research into Childhood Dementia Disorders and will require demonstrated experience in labbased skills and research.

The role of Research Assistant reports to the PostDoctoral Research Fellow and has no direct reports.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be required to undertake and have experience in the following areas of expertise:

  • Attend research meetings and training sessions and take minutes.
  • Respond to routine enquiries relating to research.
  • Liaise with stakeholders in the preparation of ethics and grant applications abstracts annual and progress reports.
  • Undertake unsupervised research support tasks consistent with established methodologies (includes laboratory experimentation).
  • Perform data collection entry (including building and maintenance of databases) and analysis.
  • Conduct statistical data reporting.
  • Collating and recording experimental data accurately writing up experimental procedures and contributing to the interpretation of experimental results.
  • Coordinate study participant visits coordinating and facilitating patient recruitment and assist with biospecimen collection processing logging and storage.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Science Health Science or related discipline with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education training and experience.
  • Demonstrated labbased skills and experience preferably within a Science or Medical discipline.
  • Currently holds or willing to gain a Working With Children Check and undertake a Criminal Record Check.
  • Ability and willingness to work across multiple parallel projects within the School.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills required for interpretation of results and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrates strong commitment to quality and attention to detail.
  • Advanced time management organisational and problemsolving skills including the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills with an ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality with an aptitude to show empathy towards patients and families.
  • Demonstrated experience providing effective customer service and support to clients at all levels.
  • Demonstrated computing skills including word processing (MS word endnote) spreadsheets (MS Excel) and statistical analysis packages.
  • Ability to make sound judgements and work both independently and as part of a team.
