Program Summary
The PreEmployment Training (PET) program in collaboration with the Refugee Employment Services (RES) program serving new arrivals provides both remote and inperson English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for six skill levels. PET also offers vocational training digital literacy skillbuilding and resource navigation computer lab access and connections to local community resources and higher education. PET currently operates at IRCO sites in Portland and Beaverton.


Position Summary
The Digital Literacy Resource Navigator (DLRN) will advance digital equity by supporting adult learners through digital skills training and device acquisition. The DLRN will conduct classes covering topics such as hardware device setup software email Internet searching and safety virtual learning platforms job search and job application completion support. The DLRN will also focus on Microsoft Office Programs of which include Word and Excel. Besides providing training this position will collaborate with IT PET and RES Staff in ordering program equipment.


The DLRN will join the PreEmployment Training team of instructors as part of IRCOs Refugee Employment Services programming within the Workforce and Refugee Services Division in collaboration with other IRCO divisions.


Essential Functions

  • Provide inperson and/or remote classroom instruction in digital literacy skills
  • Utilize and update curricula incorporating culturally appropriate content aligned with participants needs and goals
  • Teaches computer use for employment process such as job search resume writing applications and transportation planning
  • Stores equipment in safe filing cabinets assist distribution of equipment to clients and provide technical assistance with connecting to online classes
  • Conducts a pre and post survey to ensure the clients are gaining the skills they need but also determining how to improve our classes
  • Document their successes with clients through tracking attendance progress and then reporting
  • Staff computer lab and respond to requests for dropin assistance
  • Collaborate with IRCO program staff to ensure culturally specific content and culturally responsive instruction
  • Local travel may be required
  • Ensure compliance with program organizational and funder requirements and standards

Secondary Functions

  • Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; detail oriented
  • Understand the unique needs of adult learners in refugee and immigrant communities
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality of information and privacy of participants
  • Experience working with immigrants and refugees from a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds preferred
Requirements

Education & Experience

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum 12 years of work experience
  • Advanced expertise in digital literacy and training adult learners in the use of computer hardware and software
  • Teaching experience required or combination of relevant training skills and experience
  • Experience or familiarity with digital skills assessments

  • Positions at this level have a minimal need or ability to analyze problem or concepts or make decisions on the information
  • Well protected environment with minimal hazards or obstacles
  • Stable work schedule with no fluctuations

Supervisory Responsibilities

Positions at this level are not responsible for any supervisory functions or responsibilities but may occasionally be asked to orient and/or train new employees or volunteers.
